Sergio Aguero - 2016/17 performances

Said before the game we needed more in midfield but my view was drop a defender and go 3 at the back.

But I'm not Pep and it very nearly worked for us until Bravo was sent off.
I liked our game plan and our starting lineup. And IMO it worked in as much as we had more chances than Barca and were stopping their buildup and forcing turnovers.

We were undone by the best player in the world, somehow luckily getting it back after Kolarov had robbed him of the ball, and then serendipitiously being in just the right spot once Fernandinho unluckily slipped in the box.

Bravo's bad pass and subsequent handling of the ball sealed our defeat.

For me... tacitics/stragety was correct - team selection was correct Just unfortunate in the way the game transpired.

The people who reported on the match are simply having to deduce why Sergio didn't play, from their own desks.

They can't say "I don't know what the fuck is going on", as that would actually be the truth.

So in turn, they infer and be suggestive, to the point it makes for a much better story to suggest our "best player" and a manager who has suddenly become no better than Steve Bruce, are at odds.

It causes days of tittle tattle until at some point, Sergio scores a hat-trick ('and then it's see, Pep, you fucked up mate' ) or Sergio goes a few games without a goal (and it's Sergio's rift with Pep is impacting his natural game')

I'm sure Pep will continue to be bemused by the questions he receives today.

I am ashamed and embarrassed by the standards of football news journalism in the last decade.

They either get spoon-fed by the clubs (I'm sure City are briefing against Pep and Kun, not!) or they just aren't very good, and don't have a relevant contact between them.

And that's the truth, trust me.
Now that's a top comment. The arrival of Pep really got out the worst from some of the not so clever and humble journos in the UK.

The hacks are jumping on the rift story because they have no idea about peps tactics, they don't want to learn they deal in soundbites only,if i could see why he didn't play so we could have an extra midfielder then they must be able to see it,talksport this morning said peps ego is running away with him by freezing out certain players, did they say the same when pisscan and maureen do it,i think not
Spot on Karen

He may be another midfielder by trade ,but he certainly would of been on hand to bag a few of the pullbacks that went begging

I was in agreement with you, Itchy or Aguero but not KDB upfront and we may have seen a different outcome and to those that say the extra mid may have made those chances you may well be right also, as it was we were outdone by our own errors and we move on to the home game.

Yup. That's just it.

You can be the better team on the night by far... but Messi, has the ability to single-handedly kill you nonetheless.

Best player in world football now - and for me - best player in world football ever.

The goals Messi scored were none out of this world but caused by mistakes of City... (I do not want to make Messi smaller - but I doubt that other players would not have taken advantage of the situations, too)

Do you remember during the first couple of years after he joined us, the number of newspaper stories peddling nonsense about him not staying? They couldn't get enough of their made up lies suggesting he won't be around beyond the next transfer window. It was journalism at its worst. The usual anti-City stuff.

Well, 5 years and 100 goals later he's still here. He's benched for one game for tactical reasons, and they all wake up like a bunch of startled rabbits and leap for the copy and paste.

Thing is mate without the extra midfielder there's no guarantee the chances would've been made in the first place. Past performances at the Nou Camp have shown us that we found it very difficult to create chances because we couldn't retain possession for long enough owing to being outnumbered in the middle.

Exactly this.

The same rationale can be applied as to why Joe no longer plays between the sticks. The reason Joe is such a good shot stopper is because he got so much practice as a result of giving the ball away and conceeding possesion.

Anyway, until the second goal and the sending off we were setup and playing well with lots of possession. This considering our inferior man-for-man talent. The way Pep plays we need to have attacking midfielders with better finishing qualities and atm we are too reliant on Kun scoring the majority of our goals.

I'm not concerned of the rumours of any rift but we are still a couple of seasons away from Pep implementing his full ideology of how we should play. Can I see Kun being our 1st name on the team-sheet in 3 seasons time? I honestly dont know but it wouldnt surprise me if we bring in a different type of striker at some point to challenge Aguero for top spot.

As it currently stands we are still a few transfer windows away from having the talent to deliver Pep's style of play and we are not going to win EVERYTHING this season. Not by a long chalk. This season will be Pep's bedding in season.

I'm 100% happy in what i've seen so far and the way we have been playing, especially compared to the last two seasons.

Dont get sucked in to the nonsense spewed out by the press, they have column inches to fill each day and 24hr rolling sports news content to fill. 10 games in we were invincible, 4 games later we are in crisis.

Genuine LOL.
