Sergio Aguero - 2016/17 performances

Watching Aguero over the years, there have been two different players imo, due to fitness.

The fully fit Aguero, was probably the best striker the Prem has ever seen. The half fit Aguero was a dangerous cf, & one of the best, but stoppable.

The biggest difference between the two, was a yard of pace.

Sadly, I think that yard of pace has now gone. Having Sane upfront alongside Serge & Sterling, emphasised that from where I'm sat. There was a big difference in Sterling or Sane chasing a through ball, compared to Aguero. And Aguero was pushing, flat out. All credit to him, he ran his balls off.

But that extra yard, was the difference between him getting in front of the defender & being at the side of him.

But the technique & strength is still there.

I think Aguero needs to reinvent himself to compensate for that yard of pace, which will involve passing more & playing more one twos etc. I think he can do it. But I think he has to, or he will lose his first choice position.

no it shouldn't, but punk flowed well in my drunken spiel at 1am.

If you take out of the post that he worked hard, put the effort in that made it seem he'd only play for an hour (i.e. he worked really hard), but he had poor decision-making, and then at the end my frustration that he's seemingly losing what made him so special (that knack), then the rest is just me being young and bad at drinking.

And hungover as I agreed with you.... Learn to differentiate...

I don't think it's a physical thing with Aguero, it's in his head. He's an assassin, totally switched off until the chance comes then clinical. The problem is Pep is demanding he can't be switched off any more. He has to be engaged the whole game. It seems a small thing but you play the way you play and he has never been asked to think/work like this before. It's well known he does nothing in training, this must all seem a little strange to him.

Out of sorts or doesn't fit the system?

Im going with both right now and i dont see him being here much longer unless something changes drastically.

He's been a star for us. He's a truly brilliant striker, really one of the best. But he's an individual and he's selfish. Whilst they are the attributes that have made him so successful, they are also attributes that Pep doesn't care for.
He'll be gone in the summer.
