This is where I will completely disagree. Instinctive reaction? Sergio has clearly looked for it/knew Reid was coming/anybody who has played the game at any level would lean towards those visual traits.

The referee has the absolute convenience of being able to hide solely behind his word.

Sergio lost himself that luxury, as it's also on camera.

I never saw the incident live at the ground, and I'm following the play, the passage of the ball.

It can easily be argued the referee, at ground level, with the speed of the game and everything going on at eye level, missed it, even looking directly at the play in question/.

Like he missed the incidents each time he should have sent off their fullback perhaps.

My issue with this isn't did Aguero throw an elbow or not, I've seen the footage and I believe he's intentionally thrown his arm at Reid. It's a red card offence, and a 3 game ban. My issue is with the "retrospective" element of the potential punishment. This can only happen if the referee didn't actually see the incident. Now there's no way anyone can be in any doubt, when watching the footage back, that Andre Marriner definitely saw the incident, he's 10 yards away looking right at it. For him to claim he didn't see it is ridiculous, it's a joke, in fact it's dishonest. What he means is "I made a mistake". He saw it happen, but his misjudged it, as referees do time and again on all manner of decisions throughout a game. You can't have a referee, after the match, looking over all his decisions and going "got that one wrong, I'd better change what I think of it". You make your decision at the time and you live by it. I assume we now get a 4-1 win do we, as the linesman "misjudged" the Aguero offside and odds are he'd have scored? No, of course we don't, and rightly so. You see it, you make a decision, and that's it. You don't (or shouldn't) get to have a second chance at it days later. This is the FA, and the referees association, however, so we shouldn't expect anything other than them covering their own backs and making decisions they think will make them generally popular.
Well said.

That's all well & true.

The point is that yet again, it seems that City are going to feel the full weight of the law, whilst others get away with it over & over again, & that yet again, it will be due to a referee blatanty lying in order to facilitate it.

They are stitching us up, irrespective of Aguero's guilt or innocence.
Not sure we can be certain the ref is blatantly lying. He perhaps should have seen it and if he had imo it deserved a yellow card because I think it was a careless form of protection rather than a premeditated pull. However, it is likely that it could be viewed as a red by the panel. I'm not sure that we have had to endure the full weight of the law any more than others in recent years and in fact we have been treated relatively fairly in these matters.

Embarrassed for some of the comments on here.???????????

Aguero not only fucked up, he has let everyone down.

Thankfully, the referee didn't act upon it during the game, and we have those three points to show for it.

On an aside, you connect a full elbow with a face and there's no telling what damage it can cause, just because it didn't result in a Gary Mabbutt style incident, doesn't grant leniency.
I've not read every post but from what I've read I see nothing to be embarrassed about. Some people don't believe it's a send off offense. And some don't think there should be retrospective punishments for pretty regular actions in a contact sport (not like he walked up to someone and punched him or spat on him or bit him). And some don't believe Aguero intended anything other than a moderate slap which again happens in almost every tussle.

I don't think Aguero let anyone down. If he has to be thinking twice about his game he might screw himself up so once he's not going crazy I think he can carry on as is.

If we get a ban then so be it but imo it's a stupid setup that's open to corruption and trial by media. Sport should be beyond this shit. That is what's embarrassing imo.
