Not true. It's a bit of both. If you score more than you concede in any one game you win 3 points.
Usually the team that does this most, wins the league ;-)

Despite scoring in both games, I think he was poor against west Brom and today. Missing too many easy chances and today it was very costly. If he puts that sitter away and we go 2-0 up, could have been a very different game.

He remains our best striker and a world class player, but I still think he misses too many.
