Sergio Gomez | Joins City on a four year deal

Think I have just watched the same video! Says a lot about Zinchenko that he is included on that list when he's "not a left back".

Wish Gomez every success at City - hopefully he is that good we don't need to go shopping for another left back any time soon.
I think in fairness, Gomez himself didn't start out as a Leftback. As a lot of the plays on the highlight reel showed him at Right mid. Also his crossfield passes were reminiscent of what Zinny does at the national team level.

I believe last year might have been his 1st or 2nd full season at Leftback. But the intensity an interest in pressing and the technique on the ball are all similar ( might I say slightly better) than Zinny's.

For what it's worth he was a highly regarded youth attacking mid at Barca.

I'm trying to hold back my excitement here, but this has always been my kinda Leftback. :)

Oh! Y'all remember the U-17 where Our Foden ran the show and won best player?

Yeah, Sergio Gomez was 2nd best in that tourney.

So we got the 1 and 2. Let's go!!!!!!

What I don't get is, it was only last week several fans were lamenting why Brighton can unearth a €15m Cucurella, where 12 months later 2 PL giants were battling for his signature by lodging £40m & £62m bids, but City can never seemingly unearth these gems?

Now we're reportedly signing a very promising LB for €15m plus add-ons, with a sell on clause, but we're only doing it to develop the player to sell for a profit?

Why can't City be doing a Brighton here & only be looking to sell on if Gomez doesn't make the grade? Are players only worthy of a longterm future at City if they cost north of £50m? :-/

I'd never heard of Gomez previously, let alone seen him play a match, but from the "Best of" YouTube highlight reels I've seen, the kid looks promising.

He's played right back, left back, right midfield, left midfield, as a No 8 & on both left & right wings. He's evidently a creative attacking player who can defend too, VERY similar to one Marcelo!

Give the player a chance to prove himself mate... \0/
More than happy to give him a chance. All I’m saying is I don’t see him being a preferred first choice signing. I hope he turns out to be world class.

My point is part of the city group model is to improve players & sell on.

Considering we have Cancelo already on our books it is a realistic signing. Lodi would of been a more convincing signing at £50m+ than Cucurella but he isn't a perfect full back no matter how you stretch it.

In his press conference, Pep confirmed Gomez was being signed as a first team player & not a CFG loanee, & as it currently stands would share left back duties with Cancelo & JWE.

When asked if we were done recruiting left backs for the coming season, Pep emphatically said no. So it looks like we're finally looking to resolve our longstanding problem position with Tierney, Lodi & Sosa being rumoured as possible targets, to play alongside Sergio Gomez.

I think Pep misunderstood the Q about LB, suspect one of the media will clarify later this evening but think we’re done for LB.
