Serial Killer at large in Manchester?

its so different to what it was in the 80s and all the old footpaths have been open the canals are now used by boats and there is so many apartments been built around the both canals they even have a marina in new islington and the old canal from rochdale been dug up and cleaned out and now you can go right around to the ashton canal. so much money been spent on apartments and city living its crazy the amount of people living around both canals

the council and the british waterways need to review the footpaths around town and railings need to be put on the edge of the canal and the locks need to take them walk rails off and something to stop people walking on top of them. use both canal footpaths living in ancoats and there is even a new school built on the edge of the rochdale canal ????? its crazy that so many people forget the dangers of water and canals and am talking about not drunk people on a night out thinking they are superman

last week they drained the ashton canal at new islington and the drop from the edge of the canal to the bottom is about 5 ft and from the middle its about 9ft so if you think about it 5ft of cold water with nothing to grab hold of to get a grip off to pull yourself out add the cold water and panic its only going to end one way. now the locks they are the real killers 20ft drop to the bottom and about 7ft to the top of the water with nothing to get you out and they put a rail so you can walk across them ?????
There's a ladder in the lock. Why would you walk across except to work the lock for a boat? Perhaps a wall next to the canal would be safer than a railing that a drunk could climb and fall off?

the some of the locks have rails on them to cross to the other side and to get out the canal yes the lock have ladders but when its dark and you fall in panic sets in quick and if your drunk its just about impossible to get your bearings in deep cold water. railings along the canal would work and stop you from walking up to the edge and looking in and a 4ft rail would be hard to fall over when drunk

building small wall would not work and the cost would be sky high anyway but something got to be done and if we can come up with idea's on bluemoon then the people with power like the british waterways the council and the government they should. its getting out of hand now and how many more have to die before its enough to do something. this as been going on far to long to turn a blind eye to again now is the time to point the fingers and say do something

It's going to need professional recommendations from the relevant authorities to push that through and for me that is the job of HM Coroner. Every single one of these deaths will have been subject to an inquest, which confirms that there is nothing suspicious and establishes the facts about each death. Part of the Coroners role is to identify systemic failings and critical contributory factors. I dont know what HM Coroner has said about this, but the first step in addressing this is calling for some intervention on how the waterways can be made safe in certain areas

We have the biggest student population outside of London, More pubs, bars than ever before. They are all open from silly o'clock until silly o'clock. The canals are now relatively nice areas to walk. Unfortunately its pissed up people not knowing their way about properly and having a dreadful accident.
There is no pusher !!

How about closing pubs near canals? That should help.

Don't drink and drive, don't drink and operate machinery, don't drink and walk alongside canals in the dark.

Even when pissed and not knowing my way about I am pretty sure I wouldn't get lost in a canal.
