Try strolling down there after dark. Plenty of loons in town at night, out of sight on the canal paths there's even more.
I usedto use the Ashton canal as a biking/running training ground years ago nothing ever happened

But obviously things have happened though. Always late at night/early hours, when it's dark.
Have you not read the MEN report posted a couple of pages back?
Ihave now read it and that is shocking, but that is one gang of scrotes opperating within the piccadilly gay corridor, we have been on this subject for at least 6 months and it covers all of GTR MANCHESTER these scrotes have neither the intelligence or the way to kill people all over the Manchester area, it is simply people getting rat arsed wandering off and falling in water, it happened to a blue i know years ago in Chester luckily the water came up to his chest

Who says they haven't pushed more in the canal in the past that have drowned whilst robbing them and have gotten away with it? They have obviously got the intelligence and the way to kill people. They've been caught for doing one and attempts at another.
I'm not saying all that have been found in the canal have been pushed, I do believe myself some may have fallen in whilst drunk and drowned. It happened to a friends husband of mine in Leeds a few years back.
I am also not saying it is them that are responsible for all, but that MEN report proves it that this does/can happen.
The thing is there has been far too many deaths in canals to raise suspicion.

I strolled all the way from piccadilly to Eastlands today and i did not see one corpse floating in the Ashton canal, neither did i see a shady killer lurking near water, is it me but a killer stalking Manchesters waterways is a bit far fetched, but about 20 years ago i did see a drowned dog, does that count?

The Ashton Canal has not had any reported deaths and if it's safe to walk drunk along it, then you have to ask yourself why do people only fall in the Rochdale and other tributaries of the Irk, Irwell, and ship canal. My guess it's not one of the hot spots for pusher inners.

Jailed, phone robbery gang who drowned man in Manchester canal
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/jailed-phone-robbery-gang-who-6142754" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... ho-6142754</a>

Manchester Crown Court heard that the gang looked for victims in a ‘dark and dangerous’ area by the Rochdale canal where gay men look for sex.

An evil gang of robbers who pushed a man into a canal and left him to die during a violent city centre mugging spree have been jailed.

Manchester Crown Court heard that the gang looked for victims in a ‘dark and dangerous’ area by the Rochdale canal where gay men look for sex.

Simon Brass, 40, from Salford, drowned after being pushed off the towpath and into the Water beneath Aytoun Street, in the early hours of June 5.

The court heard it was likely he knew of the threat of robbery in the dark, secluded area and so hid his phone in his sock, where it was found when his body was discovered four days later.

The failure to find the phone ‘frustrated’ Paul Creedy, Kieron Murray, Leah Garner, Jack Smith, and a 15-year-old boy who can’t be identified for legal reasons.

Mr Brass was heard saying ‘I can’t swim, I can’t swim’, after the gang took their revenge.

In a disturbing twist, the court heard that Mr Brass was the second man who the robbers had pushed into the canal that night, although the earlier victim managed to get of the water, despite Creedy stamping on his fingers as he tried to drag his way out. An hour-and-a-half before killing Mr Brass, Creedy and Murray had also attempted to rob another man at the Piccadilly underpass who managed to escape when three men came to his aid.

Murray and Creedy were then joined by the rest of the gang, and they all tried to rob yet another man, kicking him unconscious and leaving him needing hospital treatment for cuts and swelling.

The gang continued to roam between Dale Street, Piccadilly bus station and Canal Street. CCTV captured Mr Brass ‘walking to his death’ under the Aytoun Street bridge at just before 2.50am, Mark Kellett, prosecuting, told the court.

Two minutes later the gang were seen walking ‘nonchalantly’ away only to rob another man of an iPhone 4 at the underpass. They then tried to sell the phone in local takeaways before being arrested.

Creedy, 20 of Heathcote Road, Gorton , who played ‘a major role’ in the spree, has been jailed for 10 years with a licence period extended by three years on his release, after admitting manslaughter and conspiracy to commit robbery. Creedy, who smirked throughout the hearing, was on bail for drugs offences at the time of killing.

Dad-of-two Murray, 22, of Eastern Bypass, Openshaw , who stole from a cabbie at knifepoint three days after the killing, admitted manslaughter and conspiracy to commit robbery and has been jailed for 10 years with an extended licence period of three years.

Smith, 19, of Lawnhurst Avenue, Wythenshawe , who also has a previous conviction for robbery, boasted to a pal that he didn’t help Mr Brass because ‘I wasn’t getting wet’, adding, ‘the guy got murdered for an iPhone...it wasn’t even an iPhone 4’. He was branded ‘callous in the ‘extreme’ by Judge Clement Goldstone QC as he was jailed for nine years after admitting manslaughter and attempted robbery.

Garner, 21, of Stockport Road, Levenshulme , attempted to rob another victim two weeks after Mr Brass’s death. She was branded a ‘bully and a coward’ as she was locked up for 10 years after admitting manslaughter and attempted robbery.

The 15-year-old boy, on bail for arson and drugs offences at the time of the killing, was described as ‘easily led’. He admitted robbery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and manslaughter, and was locked up for five years and eight months.

10 years and 9 years!!!
What a fooking joke!
They should've been sent down for murder not manslaughter.
Makes you wonder how many more they've pushed in the canal that are mentioned in this thread.
Title should be changed to Serial Killers at large in Manchester.

So St Helens Blue (Exiled) what do you say now?

What do I say now.
Read the thread title and read the above facts.
This is a scummy gang who on one night were mugging people for there phones and if unsuccessful pushing them into the canal. Cunts of the highest order but Serial killers they are not!! For fucks sake-look at there pictures!! Serial killers..Don't make me laugh, they are a bunch of wannabe gangsters-Not a brain cell between them!
A serial killer is normally a very intelligent, clever and careful person who selects their victims for a specific reason etc.Nicking an iphone 4 would be no reason!!!!!!

Yes but surely they could have mugged people in a similar way on other nights. It's very possible they have caused more deaths. I would hope the police would be trying to link other canal deaths to them at least?? I am utterly staggered at the sentences awarded. I watched women behind bars on tv last week and in America a women gets 16 years for a mugging and over here you can throw a man in a canal and stand on his fingers until he dies and get 9 years possibly to be let out in 6???

That is the british justice system mate as regards the sentences. We all agree that the sentences are too short but that's the world we live in.

never judge a book by its cover
when a iphone 4 would have return them a quick £200 easy money. this gang was knowing and did there home work on people with a ringer who would lead them to there targets

a don't buy this normally a very intelligent, clever and careful person, we are talking about a group of people working as a team each have rolls to play in the gang they are clever and intelligent and been doing it for years and not once when they get caught

so what if they was getting £200 for the iphone and what about the person money and maybe a gold chain rings and other stuff it will all add up

they was not going out and hitting a person cold. the gang would have set him up and used somebody as bate maybe the young lad and then the bate would have done his job with him taking him to the canal for a bit of fun

very intelligent, clever and careful person that's the make up of that gang

Fucking hell mate..Are you for real. It was a group of shitbags rolling people for phones.
Stop thinking that it is more than it actually is. Yes they killed a bloke but they aren't serial killers.
Now I am going to continue watching csi bluemoon.

Got a bit bored of this now I'm back at university and have alcohol to drink. Case closed until December when we'll see more bodies turn up. Then we'll close it again in February and re-open it during summer 2014.

Another body pulled out of the canal today, according to Mike Keegan from the MEN on Twitter.
