Serial Killer at large in Manchester?

Re: serial killer in Manchester - at last someone agrees

There do seem to be an extraordinarily large number of people drowning in Manchesters' canals, and I read recently a homicide expert state a serial killer could be at work in Manchester.

The police dismissed it of course, saying there were no obvious connections between the drownings, but if you were an intelligent killer, knowing the police look for 'connections', then surely you would change the way you operate?

I'm no criminal expert, far from it, but I find it slightly disturbing the police are not looking into at least the possibility of a mass murderer at work.

We do, after all, have an incredible number of dead bodies being found in our local canals, and far more than common sense would consider normal.

And by denying him the recognition he wants, GMP may encourage him to do something that goes beyond his usual boundaries and give them a bit more to work with?

Don't you watch Criminal Minds FFS ;-)

No, I don't watch it, but over the years the police have been caught with their pants down, so to speak, on numerous occasions.

I think it's ingenious they should laugh the suggestion off.

Maybe they are correct in their assessment, but what if they are wrong?

I think the claims, at the very least, deserve an investigation, because, as I have said, a disproportionate number of bodies have been fished out of Manchester's canals over the last few years.

To me, it's just a common sense approach, and it has nothing to do with a TV programme I have never watched.

I thought the canals are only 3-4ft deep so even if these people had their feet stuck in mud they could still stand up and be seen / heard calling for help.

probably not if they're fucking dead already though?

If this "serial killer" has pushed 60 people in the canal and the cause of death was drowning (i.e. they weren't clocked on the bonce), then surely there must also be a number of people who have reported being pushed in by someone, but managed to get out.

The canal's only about 5 feet deep and I fell in when pissed on a barge trip years ago and it sobered me right up.

Do you not think you are arguing against yourself here? If people had simply fell in when they were drunk then they too would have sobered up quickly and been able to get out. There wouldn't be so many deaths then.

Not really, I did fall in, my point was it is unlikely that if someone pushed a large number of people - even drunk people - that they would all drown. Surely there would be a number of people reporting that someone had pushed them in.

Maybe they could have been taser gunned or stun gunned before falling in.
Would that leave a mark on the flesh?

60+ in six years. 10 a year. Just let that sink in. Is that encountered anywhere in the "civilised world" where there are large waterways? If . . . . . . if that is not a serial killer, at the very least you should be putting up fencing to help all the apparent drunks that fall into the canal and drown.

The apparent drunks that apparently no other town faces in the UK, whether it be Leeds, Birmingham, Durham, London, etc. I would like to know the death count around Camden for the corresponding time period. Camden, major tourist area, full of canals and bars. What is there death tally?

Just as a reference point, I cannot recall a single news story of a person falling into a Chicago river that was not put there by another individual in the last 5 years. There are no fences. Downtown, all the "river walk" is open, no railings. Bizarre that the GMP have not at least investigated the possibility that someone or a group of people could be targeting people on the canals and killing them. 60 in 6 years. bizarre.

Where I grew up, the La Crosse "smiley face" serial killer had about 5 in 2 or three years and there was an investigation-a rudimentary one, but an investigation.

Another body pulled out of canal near Dale Street early hours of this morning.

the council and the police MUST DO SOMETHING TO STOP THIS NOW

they need to put gates on the tow paths and lock them at night and have more lifebuoy rings for people falling in something has to be done its getting to a point where they should fill them in
