No surprise about how well Balotelli is doing. He is going to be the best striker in the world in the next couple of years. Such a complete striker.
It's a big black mark against Mancini that he couldn't get more out of Balo for City (though one does wonder whether anyone could have got any sustained type of performance out of him)

If Mancini couldnt, noone couldve...

He just wanted to go home or to Milan. I love the guy to death (fave player), but he shouldve put more effort in at City. Thats my knock on him

Spot on. Not a huge fan of Bob but Balo's behaviour under Bob and his general lack of effort and disrespect for the man who went all out for him was shocking.

Anyways, congrats as you have one of the worlds finest talents on your hands.

I know this is going to sound completely dickish, because... I guess in reality it is.

But Im glad in the end he didnt put in the fight for City, because we likely would have never got him... or had to wait years to do it.

Having my fave player on my fave team... Well, Id have it no other way.

But from a pro/respect standpoint, he definitely shouldve given more.

I don't know what went on in training, but I blame Mancini more for Balotelli's failure. Balotelli was 20-22 and needed games. The problem is Mancini does not have the job security to do what he wants. Playing Balotelli upfront every game would anger the press and get him fired if you did not win the league. I also think City fans were too keen to jump on the press bandwagon. This season he was low on confidence, but put it lots of decent performances, but he was slated for them and people bought it, whilst Welbeck would be worshipped for a similar performance.

I'm in the camp that Mancini should have made him no1 striker as a no.9 and put others around him.

Rather than the other way round, being shoved onto the wing.

It's not as if our other strikers have played well all season.

I agree too, but I think that would have cost Mancini his job. The press would go on about how clueless he was not starting Aguero and Tevez. The fans would agree and things just would not work. Players usually step up around 19/20, then raise their level again around 22/23, then again around 25 before peaking around 27-30. That's the average curve for a player. I think people sometimes forget that when judging a player. I saw Balotelli compared to RVP several times on this forum, which says it all. Comparing a 22 year old player to a 29 year old right in his prime.

it's really unfortunate that msot of your press seemed as though they wanted him to fail.
pretty disgusting, actually.

In italy, he doesnt really have the press on his ass. His mouth has been shut pretty well, as Galliani hired a press manager for Mario.

Only issue here is dealing w racism, which while isolated in certain areas of the country, still happens. But that's life.

The media treatment there was horrid though and the world bought it

In truth, no one player is the same. Some late bloomers etc...

I don't think Mancini wanted to sell Balotelli, think club sold him.

However, he could have backed him more than he did by making him the main man.

I don't think that would have cost him his job, especially if it would've resulted in goals.

AC you have to remember that in England most of the press is pro-united, so yes, they wanted him to fail from day one. Unfortunately Mario gave them too much ammunition.
