Sevilla (N) | UEFA Super Cup | Post-Match Thread

The non-partisan appraisal of our performance is this... we were off the pace and didn't get going despite controlling possession. Sevilla's set-up to counter-attack and play deep made the game difficult for us.

We deserved the trophy, but it was far from City at our best.
Great summary

Gutted I couldn’t afford it last night but well done to those who were there, tremendous support, completely outsung Sevilla. Out of interest, from those who were there, how many City fans do you reckon were there and how many of them do you reckon were from England? I am guessing a fair few would be new fans from Greece? Looking at the scenes when we won the shoot out I am guessing a large part of the crowd was neutral?

The line up was severely missing someone in the John Stones roll last night

Akanji tried his best but isn’t in the same league as Stones on the ball

This is where we have created a bit of a problem with Walker being back in the first eleven and with Gvardiol signed, last night was crying out for Lewis from the bench for Akanji but he can’t play centre back and the two full back positions were taken

this is all resolved when Johns back but it’s one to keep an eye on over the season
We have that many games coming that Lewis and Stones will feature heavily starting with Saturday v barcodes.
Yesterday was a bit of an experiment playing Akanji there and tbf I thought he did ok with it being a completely new role for him.

Totally agree, apologies if I came across that way, not what I was trying to achieve. I was merely stating that I have an opinion different to others but that should not result in getting abused for it just because they differ, maybe this is the generation we now live in I suppose. I was trying to give feedback in terms of how gundo and mahrez now going is going to leave us shy of possibly 20 goals and we need somebody who can feed Haaland as I don’t think Phil is the answer and now KDB is out for a while it will leave Haaland struggling for service.

No need to apologise to me mate, completely respect anyone's right to have an opinion whether we agree or not.

For what its worth I agree that we need to fill the void of goals we've lost Grealish is never going to score 15 a season no matter how good he is and Kovacic looks happier playing from slightly deeper not going beyond the striker ala Gundo I think Foden will provide service to the big man not quite on De Bruyne's level of service but who is? What I do know is the bloke who is the best manager ever will work something out and we'll be alright.

Yep early season and you listen to some Chelsea support they think they'll be challenging us and Arsenal for the league! One game!

They've certainly strengthened ( A bit of an understatement lol ) so I would expect them to be right up there. If our chasers don't pip us this season given our transition in players and Kev's injury I don't hold out much hope for them until Pep leaves.

Vast majority City fans rather than neutral

F#ck me is Gvardiol slow or what!! This team needs some fresh blood asap, same old foden being out of the game, he’s not a young kid anymore and needs to do more to influence games, Haaland gets zero service to him and must be frustrated with nobody feeding him, grealish just slows us down, really worrying now KDB is out
You need to be a bit more subtle.

78% City 22% Greek.

Oh no, that's possession.
