Sevilla v City post match thread

Fantastic performance by City. Not one of the team was anything less than excellent, but special mention must go to Raheem, Jesús and Nando.

However, MotM was Fernandinho. He was brilliant, both going forward and helping out in defence.

I cannot praise the team - and the performance - highly enough.

Manuel Pellegrini got it right, despite all those Bluemooners who knew better, and deserves full credit for it.

I know I've already posted it in the matchday thread, but here is the email I sent to BT just before kick-off tonight:

How is it possible that BT has a sympathetic and knowledgeable pundit for every English team, but Manchester City? You even managed to find one, Michael Ballack, for a FC Bayern game.

We City supporters had to put up with Ian Wright last time, and now it's Harry Redknapp and Steve McManaman. Yes, McManaman played for us, but his best days were elsewhere and Redknapp has nothing but disdain for us. Their lack of knowledge concerning the reasons why some of our players have missed recent games is staggering.

Surely it's not beyond the realms of possiblity that you can find someone who spent the vast majority of his playing career at Manchester City as one of your in-studio pundits?

not read the thread , but if there are any negative posts after that performance , they should seriuosly give their head a wobble , quite possibly our best european performance to date , although the Roma game comes close , we controlled the match against a team renowned for their strength at home , we need to stuff Juve now and finish top of the group. Group of death ,my arse

sterling or fernandinho motm for me...excellent game from both of them...bony played well, probably could have had 3 tonight though, overall great game

kolarov still worries me greatly, his defense from the back is poor and eventually he will cost us a big game in this competition

22 shots with 11 on target away from home is pretty incredible against a team of Sevilla's standard

Wow!

Awesome performance, one of the best I've seen from us, even without Sergio and Merlin.

I even said earlier that they key to Yaya in a midfield 3 was NOT to play him as the "10", but just let him pick the ball from deep still and control the game, glad it worked perfectly.

Can't help but chuck the only negative in there, my good old whipping boy, Kolarov. Once again he didn't stop a single cross come in from his side all fucking night.

I've been saying pellegrini is tactically inept and holding this team back, particularly in Europe for the past 10-11 months now. It's taken long enough but i'm delighted he's finally proved me wrong tonight. And given that i was one of a very small minority that was happy with the lineup and KDB being dropped pre-match he's proved a lot of people on here wrong tonight. At last a lineup with a specific game plan and look at the results. Our best away performance by an absolute mile!

Yaya wasn't in the number 10 role, where he's not the best, he was in midfield with Fernandinho with the vital protection of Fernando. It allowed all three of them to play their natural game rather than compromising and all three put in tremendous performances. There's no excuse for not playing them 3 from now on in the champions league and tough away league games. If it means leaving out influential players sometimes, like Silva or KDB then so be it, the teams more important than individuals.

Looked solid at the back throughout and Fernando deserves most of the credit for that, absolutely superb tonight, only bettered by fernandinho. Going forward, Bony looked the part, we played more to his strengths and didn't ask him to do what Aguero does and he shown what a good player he is. Sterling has so much improvement to make still, yet he put in great performance tonight. As did Navas on the other flank. Now the pressure of qualifying is off, we need to put in a similar performance in Turin and top the group. It's vital we do for the draw.

I'm convinced our side is better suited to play counter attacking football now rather than possession and tonight has only strengthened my opinion. We can still dominate inferior teams in the league and retain possession when necessary but in Europe we should be switching to a counter attacking style, similar to what Real Madrid did when they won it.

Robbie Savage, incredibly, said he was in the No 10 role.

He gets paid. We don't.
