Sgt Alexander Blackman

No they are not, he should never have done it, no excuse for it, especially as an NCO. We are supposed to be above this sort of thing in these conflicts
What do you think this marine should have done when he encountered this terrorist writhing on the ground?

Depends on the situation but ideally first aid applied and POW status

Exactly, and the situation was that his troop were in constant contact with the enemy at the time,
they were depleted by casualties, and under threat of what was a common ruse by the Taliban, ie;
deliberately leaving wounded combatants for allied forces to divert resources to.
There was, apparently, no facility to care for this individual, POW status in this extremely dangerous scenario
was impossible, so instead of killing him, the only alternative was to simply leave him.
Would leaving him be the correct response?

Yes it dangerous yes it may have been a ruse but you still don't shoot him.

Complete bollocks...... broke the rules and had the audacity to video it (or leave it undeleted) so he deserved what he got....

Diminished responsibility they have argued , nobody but him will ever know if that's true... his words didn't sound like those of a troubled soul to me

Broke what rules?

Removing a threat?

Can tell your the type who dont' appreciate our armed services.

Oh and for the record he didn't film it. Was on a fellow soldiers camera on helmet.

Bullshit.... google Rules of Engagement.... then have a look at the basics of the Geneva Convention..

Nobody will argue that the enemy would follow the rules but he should have....

He should have just put another bullet in him once they'd been hit by the apache, that or walk past the **** and leave him to die there and then, no way should they be expected to try and save the **** by bringing medics out in to the field for a scumbag who's sole intention is to kill them in the first place.

If he'd took either option we wouldn't be having this conversation.

What do you make of the Geneva Convention? Is it a load of nonsense then given the vast array of circumstances soldiers may face in war? Some nice words written without considering the environment people may find themselves in?
