Sgt Alexander Blackman

It is a good thing, but it applies to countries who have declared war upon each other, and are signatories to it mutually.
The Taliban are a proscribed terrorist organisation, responsible for dreadful terrorist atrocities, complete subjugation and
rape/murder of women, amongst other delights.
I'll not go into too much detail, but my dad, in the Ardennes forest saw a Lieutenant actively shooting with his pistol
wounded and screaming German infantry, repulsed in an attack. They had been met with dum dum bullets (the wooden tipped ones)
and phosphorous bombs, illegal under the Geneva convention, fired and thrown by my dad and his mates.
I can't for the life of me understand why anyone can condone this Marine Sergeant receiving the same sort of
sentence handed out to to the truly bad, and thoroughly evil bastards that we regularly see through our legal
system.
So the liberal hand wringers can pat themselves on the back up on the moral high ground.

The sad thing is that the Taliban guy who was injured would likely not have survived...

The fact that the Marine made a conscious decision to slot the injured man and then didnt have the common sense to delete the footage is unfortunate and bloody foolish.... Based on the damning evidence therefore I think he was guilty as charged,,, how can you argue otherwise?

Regarding the Geneva Convention, I did a number of stints in Iraq and attended the obligatory "conduct under capture" training before being deployed... I and everybody in the training knew I imagine that if we were captured over there, we would be royally fucked..... these people do not recognise the convention as their attitude to us and their methods are considered sub-human in our world.... we are infidels and therefore not considered fit to lace their flip flops so we are the lowest of the low....

We have to adhere to the convention however because it is simply the right thing to do based on lessons from the recent past and the conflicts we have been part of... it's a shame that our actions would be wasted on creatures like the Tunisian wanker in Berlin but it changes nothing.... we adhere to the convention or lower ourselves....

the long and short of this is that the guy killed the Taliban insurgent in cold blood, a premeditated act, instead of getting him the medical help he deserved (under the convention)

The chances are the guy would have died anyway but we'll never know

This is my take on it, he should never have done it

There is no way this soldier should be tried under the same conditions as other murderers, soldiers should be tried in military court, but the MOD didnt want to do this for transparency purposes, so it didnt look like a whitewash, I personally dont think it should be in normal court and if it is insisted that he is, then he has the right to a full defense, that every other citizen gets. However, the MOD prevented his commanding officer and others from testifying in his defense, like they would in a normal murder case, under the official secrets act, this appalled his superior officer so much he resigned his commission in protest. Simply treating this with the same sensibilities as other murderers is wholly unrealistic, Sgt Blackman was hung out to dry by the marines, the MOD and the courts, he was treated differently that other people, this is someone who put their life on the line for his country and his country let him down.

True but he's done enough time given the terrorist was dying anyway

thats not the point 'he was dying anyway' as the correct brigade can argue he could have been saved by the medic, in a situation adrenaline kicks in and takes over, you cant train soldiers to do it by the book, i have served in war situation and me without question i'd put a bullet through his skull as has happened many time in both Iraq wars and those situations have never come to light

OK Marco but my view is that Sargent Blackman has served enough time, relative to the crime.

I think our Government sets the wrong tone acquiescing with politically driven prosecutions as we've seen in Iraq and Northern Ireland.

He was tried and sentenced through a military court and his appeal was at the Court Martial Appeal Court.

I thought he was tried in a normal court, I was under the impression he was tried and sentenced under a civilian judge and his appeal was in the court martials appeal court, but I stand corrected if I am wrong. I know the supreme court ruled that he should be named after having his name withheld originally.
