Shakhtar Donetsk (H) CL Post-Match Thread

Worst ive seen us play in ages. Injuries are killing us yes but some of the players need to look at themselves. Otamendi is shit. He should be ashamed of himself and fucking knuckling down. A centre midfielder has taken his spot for every important game and is outplaying him.

And on performances so far this season Cancelo isnt any better than Danilo. Infact i dont think he is.

Some are just out of form. Happens i guess! We'll come good im sure. Foden HAS to start getting more minutes though, we need legs in midfield. Id actually happily see Garcia at CB and push fern back to CM

The game was so bad i fell asleep at times. One thing which irks me about Pep is not using Foden from the start. I mean people used to rave about how Pep gives youth chances but sadly it looks the complete opposite here.

After the past few seasons in the CL where we have been the early favourites and we have maybe peaked too early.. perhaps this is a good omen and getting through the early stages and growing into the competition is “us” this time round. As that is often the script for the eventual winners...

Or maybe I’m clutching at straws.. who knows.

I like that take. Hope we do grow into the season and peak

Was pretty dull. A lot of players out of form on top of the injuries mostly to blame I think. We miss Sane or some explosive pace and unpredictability. Long balls over the top no longer snuffed out by Laporte make us really vulnerable to counter attack. I don't think we will be back to strength until the end of January so we have to hang in there.

Having won the group, we don't have to even think about CL again until the 18th of February at the earliest. That's 84 days from now, nearly three months.

I would hope Sane and Laporte will be well near fitness, and so should Zinky who gives us some depth. I would also hope we get deeper at CB in January, though I have no idea who we can get of quality who isn't cup-tied.

Hanging close with Liverpool (not to mention others) with our current side is going to be difficult. Healing up and improving by mid-February to be ready for CL gives me a lot more hope.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen such a drab performance from a Pep side. That summed up our form over the last two months perfectly. Slow ponderous possession for the sake of keeping it and very little creativity or movement. It’s not a one-off as can happen, and it’s more than just a blip in form given how long it’s gone on for now. We’re going to drop a lot more points and to average teams too until this is addressed.

Crowd was just as drab too, with what sounded like a girls primary school putting the singing section to shame and then we had absolute morons in the south stand throwing those flags or whatever they were both on the pitch which we will get fined for and into the away end despite them showing no aggression whatsoever. Can’t complain about scum like the Zagreb mob and then throw stuff ourselves with no provocation at all.

Every City manager turns into coward regards to the youth academy. Its bizarre. Pellegrini and Mancini couldn't care less about it. Pep has had to play some as the likes of Foden, Garcia are too good to ignore.
