Shakhtar Donetsk (H) CL Post-Match Thread

With regards to the lack of a leader at the back, does anyone think Ederson would command that kind of respect if he learned English well enough?

Oh well it was good while it lasted ..
Turned off absolute load of bollocks, 2 shit fullbacks with another shit LB on the bench.

We look sluggish, don't press well & when was the last time either FB has gone passed the defenders or hit the Go alone????

Gabby got Fuck all service & when he does get it he turns himself inside out just so bad.

Bernardo has been half the player since Peps playing him then subbing him with Mahrez

We have more press in the box than on the pitch & don't get me started on Our last ditch talking because or CM is to fucking slow

Dino has to get his arse back in midfield with Rodri & Kev.

Newcastle will spit, bite & kick & when we play those SCUM bastard there pace yes even shitty UTD will smash our back line on the counter.

Last moan

What the fuck has Sterling been eating he has hit a brick wall.

All in all shit & must change rapido

Qualified but fucking finish again..

Guess we have been spoilt
Yeah but apart from that.
( you're right).

It is very difficult to replace people like Vinny. He put his all into the run in but he had to go some time. He wanted the anderlecht challenge and fair play to him.

You can’t buy in a leader (or rarely). You hope that one emerges through the ranks that has learned by example. No one (for me) has stepped forward yet.

You're right Pingu - but to not even try to replace him is strange, especially when he was so influential just as a player. I'm not sure who will drag us over the line if we get close this time.

Fernandinho you are a fucking footballer mate, a fucking footballer and a half!

As for the rest of that team, that was genuinely a fucking dreadful performance.

Ederson - doing his best Bravo impression
Cancelo and Angeliño - average as it gets
Otamendi - that shot fifty foot over the bar sums up his season
Rodri - biggest waste of money since Mangala
de Bruyne - ran around a lot, got kicked a lot, gave the ball away a lot
Gundogan - erm, well he did scuff one into the net I suppose
Bernardo - okay actually
Sterling - did he play? He’s been piss poor for a good while now!
Jesus - couldn’t trap a fart in his arse tonight, never mind a footy.

We genuinely looked like a very poor side tonight! A side that looks like it’s going to and is up for winning fuck all this season.

And to top it off we had a fucking drum that sounded like Bolton Wanderers in 2003. Sling it, for fuck’s sake!

Lets get some perspective here, flat performance it may have been but this was a game we knew we didn't have to win before kickoff. Some may argue that's two poor performances back to back, but we got the outcomes we wanted from both games.

We needed 3 points and deserved to get them in the end on chances created at the weekend, we probably only deserved a draw at best tonight(you're not telling me they played expansive football as BT tried to make out) but we have guaranteed top spot with that result tonight. Under Pep, CL performances anywhere near that flat are few and far between, some of our very best performances come in that competition in fact.

Pep did say the players were tired after Saturdays game and needed an extra days rest. I can't remember a team in the PL that has entertained, played with such high intensity and won so many games without any compromise for 2 seasons straight(it's usually win at all costs "the sign of champions tm"). I think Pep is having to put out fires in too many places at the moment, injuries, unable to play a consistent back 4, fatigue(possibly linked to the past two seasons), players out of form, the teams press deteriorating as a result of the former issues raised.

It stands to reason there's only so much Pep can do to stop injuries, other than try and make sure fatigue isn't a big factor. The answer for fatigue is to rest more train less, but that comes with it's side effects I would have thought. I think if they are fatigued, we should rest them as much as we can before the fixtures really start to pile up. The way some go on in the match threads, they think the players have infinite reserves, they'd burn them out by September.
You're struggling a bit there mate.

You’ve definitely got a point and I agree but we really shouldn’t be relying on Fernandinho in the middle still.

It’s fucking annoying that’s what needs to happen after years.

and that sums up our biggest problem this year. No replacement for kompany, fern or Aguero and we have all been saying it for the last few seasons. We have left it too late. Very poor planning on the surface of it. Why, why ?

Those are 3 huge players through the spine of the team. It’s the spine that wins trophies and right now we don’t have a spine
