Shamima Begum

I don't particualrly care what her mental state was plain and simple. She seemed all smiles when her and her mates were flying across the world to join the cult. I'm saying she gave up any rights in this country as soon as she joined a terrorist organization...this after years of terror attacks on british soil to teach her and her mates better.

This is the trouble with the soft touch approach of today...absolutely everyone, from pervs, rapists, murderer's, you name it, have a ready made excuse and a long line of fools to make them. Not suggesting you are a fool but that mentality is imo utterly foolish and only helps this kind of threat thrive in the west.

The families and victims of terror deserve better, THEY deserve a zero tolerance approach...the terrorists, including those who support them, deserve absolutely fuck all.

How come we aren't removing the citizenship of all the National action mob or Lee Rigbys killers I'm sure we can palm them off on their ancestral homes?

Basically picked on an easy target haven't they to look like they are tough on crime and immigration.

If we had a zero tolerance approach to the IRA I very much doubt we’d have ever got to a peace agreement! Anyway that’s not actually the point here, the part that doesn’t sit well with me is that we are stripping a British citizen of their citizenship without taking them to trial and charging them with crimes and also the fact she was a child when she made the decision to join ISIS.
Thats an apples and oranges comparison. As for the stripping her of her citizenship...cry me a river.

Age is no excuse as far as i'm concerned and if speaking frankly, what is to stop the next shamima begum from doing the same thing if there is no serious consequences every time this happens? People can quote laws and rules all day to me it won't change my view. Many laws are a joke in this country...

I say all this knowing full well some clown of a judge will eventually cave, and one of her 50 appeals will be a success. Because thats the UK in 2023. The land of zero responsibility and consequence...unless you silently pray outside an abortion clinic, or say something mean online.

Bang on…

Well the normal course of justice is the deterrent. We tend to prosecute terrorists and send them away for actually a long time. And rightly so. I don’t think anyone is suggesting she comes home and is let off… she should be tried and punished for her crimes.

And we might be soft to a degree but you’re using hyperbole to make your point. I mean which country would you like us to be more like when it comes to crime and punishment?

Actually the U.K. in 2023 is the opposite of that. Us not repatriating individuals or families from Syria and removing their citizenship is our current mo and we’re an outlier doing it, not the other way round in any way. You know it’s not a popular policy internationally when both Trump and Biden denounce it.

Your first sentence is the biggest problem.

Also, it's really no good asking me which country i'd like us to be more like...terrorists and pedophiles would be hanging from each corner of the UK if it were my choice.

Now thats hyperbole!

You seem to be getting a bit sensitive over it all so I’ll leave you be.

Couldn't resist.

She wasn't a child when she showed zero remorse in her first interviews. We are a soft touch society but for terrorism...zero tolerance should be the way, otherwise we are simply pissing on the memory of the innocent people who have died to this stuff.

Can we be a strong country in at least one area please.

I wouldn’t say this is us being a strong country as it’s not zero tolerance, it’s us choosing not to deal with it. Zero tolerance would have been repatriating her and then sentencing her to a life sentence, for example.

I’d actually argue allowing her to stay in Syria is pissing on the memory of innocent people more, given all it really does is increase the risk of those there being either sucked back in to IS, or in the case of children, being groomed in the first place.

You're seriously reaching methinks but whatever you think boss...we're all entitled to an opinion.

With what?
All of it.

Repatriation is exactly what she wants. She only wants this as she knows it will come with no real consequence. As for her being in syria being worse for people who have suffered, tell that to a manchester arena survivor who has to walk down the street looking at begums smug face.

Anyway honestly thats all from me its a tiring conversation, especially after we just played that shit tonight.

Fair enough, agree with your last point!

My point wasn’t about what she wants, it’s that everyone is repatriating their citizens from those camps and then putting them on trial and prosecuting and we’re the outlier in not doing it.

We have relinquished control of whether she gets any retribution for her actions or not, whether they’re deserved or not. I just don’t get how it’s a good outcome for people with either viewpoint on her personally.

Its a good outcome for the powers of the Home Secretary and people that want that, but I’m not sure much else can be really said about it.

Yet I imagine you’d be banging a different drum if a Syrian came here, committed crimes and then Syria refused to take him back? It’s not just the woman’s side of this argument that needs to be considered. Equally I’d imagine we wouldn’t be taking this stance if it was the US or another ally that was stuck with her.
