RIP to a guy who lived quite a life

Bet the odds on the Xmas number one have just been slashed ......
 
Always seemed to be leathered ?
Anyone see the Pogues at the International (Plymouth Grove) in the early 80's ?
The lighting rigging collapsed due to the huge crowd bouncing ?
Luckily, don't think anyone was injured and the gig continued ?
Saw the Pogues much later about ten years ago - he could barely get on the stage and was soon ushered off with another band member taking on the vocals.
Came across as a sad, wasted talent...

I had a debate with Bluemoon's resident knobhead about this song a couple of years ago.

Just play the fucking song.

I'll be playing Dirty Old Town today - a song with a lot of emotion attached for me.

Saw them probably more than any other band in the 80s including a gig at the International but might have been the Anson Road venue.

Also saw them take the main stage by storm at Glastonbury in 1986. Belting musician and a great frontman. So much more than Fairytale.

RIP and thanks for the music.

That’s not really narrowed it down.

Interestingly, Dirty Old Town was written by Ewan McColl, father of Kirsty.

Well it was expected after what he has done to his body over the years, but still sad nonetheless. Such an extraordinary talent and poet. Saw them a couple of times: once in 1985 at the Kenmare Folk Festival and the last time here in Boston around 2001 after he reunited with the Pogues.

He pissed on my shoe in a Dublin nightclub one time when I was back home. I was fucking livid and wanted to chin him but he apologised profusely so I just said: "Ah you're all right Shane" He was pissed as a newt but still sent my table over a round of drinks.

Very sad especially on the heels of poor Sinead O' Connor.

The amount of people who think it's an Irish song, it really annoys me it's about Salford albeit covered by the Dubliners and the Pogues
