I'm still amazed his most famous composition is played so widely, when it contains
You're a bum
You're a punk
You're an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God it's our last
It's a great song to be fair...We'll be hearing Fairytale of New York til July now.

Rather it than that Mariah Carey shite we are all subjected to every December. It's a great song to be fair...
I had a debate with Bluemoon's resident knobhead about this song a couple of years ago.I'm still amazed his most famous composition is played so widely, when it contains

Was I pissed as I don't remember exchanging messages with you!I had a debate with Bluemoon's resident knobhead about this song a couple of years ago.
Just play the fucking song.
I'll be playing Dirty Old Town today - a song with a lot of emotion attached for me.
RIP Shane
Saw them probably more than any other band in the 80s including a gig at the International but might have been the Anson Road venue.Always seemed to be leathered ?
Anyone see the Pogues at the International (Plymouth Grove) in the early 80's ?
The lighting rigging collapsed due to the huge crowd bouncing ?
Luckily, don't think anyone was injured and the gig continued ?
Saw the Pogues much later about ten years ago - he could barely get on the stage and was soon ushered off with another band member taking on the vocals.
Came across as a sad, wasted talent...
I'm amazed he lasted as long as he did. Between the booze and the fags, and God knows what else.Shane has died today
Only 65
RIP

The amount of people who think it's an Irish song, it really annoys me it's about Salford albeit covered by the Dubliners and the PoguesThat’s not really narrowed it down.
Interestingly, Dirty Old Town was written by Ewan McColl, father of Kirsty.
