Shearer on Balotelli

One We've Kept On File

You may recall that, after the Ivory Coast lost the Africa Cup of Nations final on penalties to Zambia, Wayne Rooney tweeted the following:

'Funny that 2 toures was there all the way and lost. Haha.'

Haha indeed. The responses of Kolo and Yaya are presently unknown, but Mediawatch hopes they both shat a lung laughing.

A Whale In A Matchbox

Hey, we know having a pop at Alan Shearer is not so much shooting fish in a barrel, more firing a bazooka at a whale in a matchbox, but balls to it - Mediawatch is tired.

You may, like we did, have performed an extra-rapid double take when Shearer mused: "Balotelli hasn't achieved anything in his career yet."

Call us lazy if you like, but we're just going to copy and paste the 'honours' section from Balotelli's Wikipedia page for this one:

'Inter Milan: Serie A (3): 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, Coppa Italia (1): 2009-10, Supercoppa Italiana (1): 2008, UEFA Champions League (1): 2009-10

'Manchester City: Premier League (1): 2011-12, FA Cup (1): 2010-11.'

Which, as the petty and vindictive among you will note, is much, much more than Big Al ever won.

Genuinely lol'd at the whale in a matchbox bit. Will have to keep an eye out for the media watch section in future.

Indeed it wasnt. Not defending his punditry as A) sounds like he was a bit out of order and B) never listen to their drivel anyways always mute tele or switch over at half/full time But he choose to come and play for his boyhood club turning down money and success in the process and he never deserted us despite our lack of trophies. Im sure any City fan would do the same if they were offered 30 pieces of gold to play for the rags :)

doesn't matter who he played for Chris, he still talks absolute fucking shite

I was just responding to the accusation of him choosing money over success. As for his punditry skills totally leave me non plussed as they all do to be fair. As much as I hate to say it give me Gary Neville over Shearer, Hansen, Keane, Carragher ANYDAY

agreed; by the way mate I just commented on a different thread you lot were first rate after we won at your place this season - have had a lot of mither at ST JAMES PARK (it isn't some shitty sportsdirect.com bollocks) but the sportsmanship after the match was as good as I would hope we would be if the boot is ever on the other foot, fair play to you Mags for that (shearer still a **** as a pundit though)

We all know how shite Match of the Day's pundits are, but I think Lineker's really improved. Seems like a genuinely nice guy and he's actually capable of forming a coherent sentence. He stuck up for Mario last night when Hansen was talking shit about him, and called Hansen on numerous petty comments he made last season, such as the 'City are on the verge of capitulation' one.

Added to that, before the game, Ricky Gervais said he'd donate money to Great Ormond Street Hospital if Lineker said that against Ukraine Rooney missed a chance 'by a hair'. And sure enough he said it. Sack the rest of them though, biased, bitter cunts.

Was one of the best days I can remember and i have never been less bothered by a Toon loss (in what was a fairly important game) Speaking from my own point of view I think it was refreshing to see loyal support finally getting its just rewards.

Hopefully ours will come one day (If the Sheik has any rich brothers swing them our way please)

I loved how desperate they were for him to fuck up the penalty... Hanson especially, fucking lot of them started shouting "Come on Joe!".

They were not playing around either, you could hear in the tone of their voice how much they hated him.

It was pathetic right from the start of the programme when Hansen was saying that Mario always "divides the dressing room", an accusation that is frankly laughable when you see the reaction to him from the other City and ex-City players (e.g. Given) he's played against in this tournament.

You and I must be living on different planets. I thought it was widely acknowledged that Balotelli divides opinion - be it with the fans (on the forum or in the stadium) be it in the dressing room. We all remember the 'that's your boy!' shouts at Arsenal, and him being pulled away from the free-kick at Sunderland, and the fights he's had at training. Even Mancini's divided over him. Whether you think he's a good player or not, I'll have to disagree that Hansen's accusations are 'frankly laughable'. To tell you the truth, I think he could be onto something there.

On a different note, I'd like to see Alan Shearer lose his job at the BBC. I just don't get what he brings to the team.

I don't get what any of them bring to the enrichment of our viewing. I pressed the red button for most of the BBC matches that allowed for just the crowd noise. Staggering improvement.

The lack of research that Hansen/The Creosote King bring to any programme on football, allied with their undoubted Geordie/Dippers bias, makes me praise the person who invented the mute button on the remote.

I don't mind Lineker. Obviously as the presenter his role is different and he can't really stick up for players as much as he may want to.

He might have won a lot more than Shearer already but if he doesn't sort his head out he will have nowhere near as good a career,or be as good a player.

He's already had a better career than Shearer ever had.

He's a legend who will be talked about in awe at two separate clubs. You'll tell your kids about Balotelli, as will Inter fans.

What saying we had this player who scored the odd good goal but generally wasted his talent?Off the pitch though he was very entertaing.

Shearer was the best striker the Premier league has seen.

*cough* Henry *cough*

Shearer, 1 prem? He had the chance to go to UTD twice and achieve something, but chose the extra 5 grand a week both times! Prick!

i dont think it was about the money,

Not me mate - wouldn't care how much they offered

btw bit off topic do you know the Sporting Arms (think burnt down now) and Scotswood working mans club

Pundits (experts), experts don't like being wrong it challenges their status they will continue to restate their position on every occasion. They are still not happy Mario didn't cost us the title as they predicted. Mario has his flaws, his age, his experiences have influenced this, but he was really controlled last night and other than Lescott's fine performance may have been even more effective.

Next season will he cost us games I don't know, will he win us some games I have no doubt he will.

Oh please, training ground flare-ups are ten a penny, Carrington is just more exposed than most clubs.

Yes you can tell Joe really hates him...

Anyway, talking of different planets - do you still think your idol Welbeck is a better player?

Well, if you accept that the media are biased against City, which you obviously do, you'll have to answer why they've only reported 3 (or is it 4) fights at City in Mancini's time here. Of those fights, Mario has been involved in the majority of them. That's just how it is.

It's self-evident that he splits opinion. To argue he doesn't is self-refuting.

The dressing room is divided, the manager is divided, the fans are divided - like Balotelli or not. I think the biggest indictment is our turnaround in form when he got sent off against Arsenal. To me, that was the best thing that could have happened to City and fuck me, was I glad that he did.

SWP's back said:
Oh just fuck off. Balotelli couldn't be more popular in the dressing room.

As an aside regarding Balo, granted he is no Welbeck, but he's a decent player.

The day I take advice from you is the day I take up rugby.
