Shearer on Balotelli

I loved how desperate they were for him to fuck up the penalty... Hanson especially, fucking lot of them started shouting "Come on Joe!".

They were not playing around either, you could hear in the tone of their voice how much they hated him.

It was pathetic right from the start of the programme when Hansen was saying that Mario always "divides the dressing room", an accusation that is frankly laughable when you see the reaction to him from the other City and ex-City players (e.g. Given) he's played against in this tournament.

You and I must be living on different planets. I thought it was widely acknowledged that Balotelli divides opinion - be it with the fans (on the forum or in the stadium) be it in the dressing room. We all remember the 'that's your boy!' shouts at Arsenal, and him being pulled away from the free-kick at Sunderland, and the fights he's had at training. Even Mancini's divided over him. Whether you think he's a good player or not, I'll have to disagree that Hansen's accusations are 'frankly laughable'. To tell you the truth, I think he could be onto something there.

On a different note, I'd like to see Alan Shearer lose his job at the BBC. I just don't get what he brings to the team.

Oh please, training ground flare-ups are ten a penny, Carrington is just more exposed than most clubs.

Yes you can tell Joe really hates him...

Anyway, talking of different planets - do you still think your idol Welbeck is a better player?

You certainly must be living on different planets.

What Manchester City say about Mario

"I see Mario in training every day, sometimes playing with him, sometimes against him. And he is an incredible footballer. He is strong and intelligent, but he also does things you don't expect. For the opposition, he must be terrifying to play against." - Vincent Kompany.

"Mario is a good guy… he's a funny guy. When you know him well he's such a fantastic person to have in the team. Sometimes he has a bad reaction to things because he's young, but I think he's learning more now and knows what people expect from him." - Yaya Touré.

"Yeah, Mario is mad. But he is also brilliant, and I love him. I'll tell you the one thing that is the key to Mario and that is he just does not give a f***! He just does stuff on the spur of the moment and he really doesn't care about the consequences."- Joe Hart.

"The first time I met Mario Balotelli, I didn't know what to expect because I had heard so many stories about him. But what really surprised me was the level of skill he had. And the more I play with him the more I understand him." - Sergio Agüero.

Also during commentary Lawrenson said something like "if Balotelli's brains were petrol he wouldn't have enough to get out of the garage.."
Balotelli has more intelligence than ANYONE who genuinely thinks he's dumb - as opposed to just using it as short-hand for summing up a number of his traits. There's a difference between being intelligence and being a combination of daft, curious, frustrated and short-tempered (related to the frustration - a lot of his anger is directed at himself when he spurns a good chance).

His ability to speak two languages to beyond functional level, quick-witted comments during interviews, timing of runs and use of movement, to me suggest intelligence. I'm very confident he'd score higher in an IQ test than anyone who actually thinks he's stupid in terms of pure intelligence.

no disrespect to joe, but i was delighted to see mario score his penalty, the snide comments went beyond funny and secondly mario showed far more ability than the whole england team put together, something that wasn't really commented upon, largely because these buffoons have slated mario since the day he arrived.

"he's achieved nothing yet" ...
So let me get this right Alan; a champions league, 3 Seria a, 1 premiership, 1Italian cup, 1 supercup, 1 fa cup winners medal (all before the age of 22) don't count?

Give it up mate. You were a great player Shearer but you're a shite pundit.

Makes me sick the way BBC were down on mario all year all the while wanking over Rooney. He was shocking tonight and against Ukraine.
Incredible list of achievements for someone so young. May i just add the the "young european footballer of the year" award to that list. Is it called the "Ballon D'or"?

Golden Boy, I think you mean.

I'm not so sure it's racism so much as a deep desire for English players to dominate the Premiership. That a black Italian could obliterate every record in the league goes against everything they've every thought right in football.

Well if it's not then it the product of some other deep rooted prejudice! I agree with the poster who said that the BBC should look closely at its coverage of Mario. It was disgraceful and well beyond the traditional national bias!

Shearer, 1 prem? He had the chance to go to UTD twice and achieve something, but chose the extra 5 grand a week both times! Prick!

i dont think it was about the money,

He hates fergie. Also he would have just been another player at the swamp, no matter how big the player fergiescum is very much the man.
Only Rooney has bummed him. Since that new deal at 200 grand a week he's been dog shit lol.
