Shearer on Balotelli

Rooney was isolated. It was a more or less impossible job

The Premiership is of a higher standard than an Italy v England manager and he excels here.

You can't complain about pundits letting their hatred of Balotelli cloud their views, and then in the next breath do the same about Rooney. He didn't play well, but you can't on your own. Hodgson's set-up is good for the keeper and back 4, but not for forward play.

Stick in two straight lines and you can forget about a passing game, because passing requires players moving into space and that means leaving your line.

Rooney was garbage and you cannot blame the other players for that - not one negative comment about Rooney in the entire coverage whereas there must have been about 50 for the black Italian guy who utterly outplayed him

Im nnot sure whether I should be ashmamed to admit this but i was willing mario to score in open play last night....i actualy didnt care about the result and in my opinion the best team won anyway.....

I feel sorry for Joe Hart but Lescott and Milner (and i think this tournament has proved beyond doubt that he is defintely wasted out wide!!) but that is about it.

And i onlt saw one angry reaction from Mario directed at the ref all night whereas rooney did it time and time again (as usual)

Rooney was appalling again....they say he is world class but on the biggest stage of all he constantly fails to deliver again and again (how many tournaments is that now he has done nothing in)

One thing Mario certainly needs to improve on tho is his one on one......he brought that through ball down beautifully last night but he always seems either hesitant or too relaxed when running down on the goal keeper...he allowed terry to catch him last night and Ive seen this before with city as well....he is an instictive finisher who also has a tremendous shot on him from distance but I think this is one weakness in his game...he could learn a lot from Aguero and even tevez in this aspect of his game (though he did it brilliantly against chelski if I remember correctly)

I started singing the Balotelli song when he scored his pen. You can only imagine how much the media were willing him to miss it not for England's benefit, but for their own.
Loved Mario and Joe smiling at each other as he walked up to take the pen, or was imagining that?

Eh?
'Mario came and said he wanted to take the first penalty.
'It means he has a lot of character. I think he was excellent,' said Prandelli

camera zooms in on Mario while hes saying something "oh hears Balotelli having a good moan again"

camera zooms in on Gerrard while hes saying something "gerrard is asking for one last push from the rest of the boys now"

Several things as I seethe over my coffee this morning:

1. Shearer is a remarkable cock. He also had a failed career. What? Top Premiership scorer, I hear you protest. And what did he win, for all his goalscoring prowess? ONE premiership medal. With that many goals you should have a handful. Which is what Balotelli already has.

2. Mark Lawrenson personifies everything that is wrong with BBC coverage: self-serving, patronising, irreverent, and blinkered. Lawrenson sounds like he is auditioning to be the pantomime dame. Off-mic jokes (that he laughs at himself), banal comments, ignorant analysis, and constantly pulling focus. With his voice and his hair he is the perfect Widow Twanky.

3. England progressed pretty much as far as they could. If they had beaten the Italians it would have been a mugging.

4. Having watched Balotelli take penalties all season, let there be no doubt, that was the best one he has ever put away. Mario knew Joe would not commit and so he had to put it away deep in the corner and with pace. Joe guessed right but just couldn't there quick enough. Balo knew he had to step up in order to beat Joe. Great penalty.

5. Ashley Young: shit tournament, worse penalty.

Can't see past the Germans, now.

Perhaps the Italian commentators said the opposite on their coverage, that Balotelli was saying something positive and Gerrard was being his miserable-looking self?

is that relevant? The fact is the Italian commentator probably did not scrape the barrel in the same way, and we can only comment on what we hear ourselves from our own commentators and "expert" analysers - which was pure unadultered shite all night, a large chunk of which was juvenile anti-Balotelli bollocks - a garbage performance from England, a far worse performance from the bbc

My point is that England's broadcasters were sticking up for their team and having a pop at Balotelli in the process, (not like he doesn't do himself any favours is it?). The Italians may well have been doing exactly the same.

would you expect anything different from the scum and ian ladyboy?

Guy Mowbray was on form as well, the camera showed Mario shouting over to a teammate, "Mario's having a moan"...oh, lip read Italian do you? For all you know,he could've been saying "Great ball, put less on it next time" or something.

Then later, Lawro joined in when Mario was fouled, "he was going to react angrily then, til he saw it was his mate Milner"...no he wasn't, fuck off you blouse wearing knobhead.
