Sheffield United (H) - Post-Match Thread

Just watched the highlights on motd. Well done Sheffield Utd on a fantastic win.
Yes the BBC pundits were absurd as usual. Sheffield United managed no shots on target (except the offside one) and I thought they were garbage in the second half given our players were dead on their feet. Their fans gave us the full song-book of small-time chants as well. I enjoyed the result anyway.

To those of you who were at the game............................
Did any of you watch the names of the fans who died in 2019 and were remembered in the minutes silence?
My younger sister seems to think that our grandson's name was included - it was Logan Tuson, aged 7, drowned in January.
They only did SheffU and City ex-players/managers who died. Didn’t mention any fans.

Well that was a farce. Sheff Utd seemed to have a perfectly good goal disallowed but in the second half when their forward was stood so far up the pitch he was actually in Droylsden, Massey didn't bother waving her pretty little flag. Obviously that cant be varred but had they scored from her stupidity, the subsequent corner, there would have been nothing we could do. Also I thought the large screens were there to tell us why the ref is stood around like a clueless lump of shit after a goal, yet we were all forced to guess that he was talking to the VAR team. Oh and they were an excellent team apart from when they weren't falling to the floor at the slightest contact.
You want to get down to specsavers, she was RIGHT to wave her pretty flag. Have a happy new year mr magoo.

First half was as dire and boring as football (under Pep) gets. In one of his books it talks specifically about avoiding playing in a "U" shape pattern, as it completely lacks penetration and also leaves you vulnerable to interceptions/counters. All we did first half was play in those patterns, Mahrez to Walker to CB to Zinchenko to Sterling and back again. It all boils down to inverted wingers slowing the attacks down because they won't beat the fullback and cross it.

Second half we got the width through Walker and Zinchenko to some degree and moving Mahrez into a central position really changed the game. Still lucky with the first goal but in this lull in form I'll take anything.

Last game against Wolves - we were wide open to long balls and our LB was exposed.

This game - surprise! - surprise! - Garcia and Zinchenko start.

Pep realizes what's amiss with our side and will try to get by the rest of the season accordingly. The fix though, is in the next summer window.
Surprise surprise Zinchenko was not very good.

Absolutely spot on - but miles ahead of what Mendy could have contributed IMO.

I'm not saying at all that Zin and Garcia are long-term solutions - what I'm saying is that they're the best at their respective positions given our roster/injuries atm.

Mendy still better than Zinchenko for me.
Agree with Garcia.

On offense - maybe - Mendy isn't lighting it up there - but I'll give you that.

On defense - I very much disagree.

Overall, if Mendy starts I'm very worried that we'll concede on the left and that there's going to be precious little offensively from Mendy.

If Zin starts, I think we'll be mostly OK on left- maybe needing a bit of help - but that our offense on the left won't be great. But mostly Zin will defend and keep the ball far better than Mendy would have so I far prefer Zin as a starter.[/QUOTE]
