Sheffield United (H) | Post-Match Thread

Hmm... I'm not sure what the reason is that you're trying to make out there's an issue.

For the first goal, Torres does go over but there's a big group between the players. How do you know that Jesus and Torres do not recognise thanks at some point in the game or in the changing rooms?

As for your second example, you seem to forget that Jesus cut a VERY frustrated figure at a time he was going through the biggest goal drought of his career.

He's unhappy, at that point, that he's not the one scoring.

That's a striker thing.
It was an observation that I thought it looked out of character for our squad. We're not in the stadium, so we don't see everything either. I think Jesus always looks frustrated in some way. Like he's got a massive weight on his shoulders. Torres seems quite reserved. Watch Gundogan and Bernardo. Pretty much first in to say well done.

Another good display, I never thought we'd lose, although Sheffield have some
very dogged and determined players, against these we win, but only ever by 1.
Dias is absolutely outstanding, a phenomenal defender, silky skills, strong tackles that are never too early or late, great delivery, and a brilliant brain.

I think Torres would like to be playing more, which may have also been his reaction in frustration, too.

Pep is rigid as to who is absolute in the team at times and if both Torres and Jesus are peripheral figures at the the moment, when they really want to play in a team creating records and leading the league, yes celebrations will be muted.

I think that shows desire.

But, you're correct on Gundogan and Silva. Dias is also the cheerleader for the team more so than those two.

Gabby is on borrowed time, he hasnt been good enough
He is a decent kid & trys like fuck but he would rather go back & beat the defender twice or try a double flick before its to late to shoot, he nearly fucked it up yesterday & the chance at the end good save maybe but I new he would miss & thats his problem he aint a 20 goal striker imo

He is definitely sulking

If Aguero was fit then he wouldn't get a game nothing simpler,

Pep is running out of patience & the summer signings could see Gabby move on or possibly go out on loan to a big club in Italy

Aguero has 12 weeks to earn a years contract & play alongside a new striker & possibly Messi?

Let's be honest if Sergio doesn't play next year & Messi doesn't come would you go into the season with Jesus as No 1

Re your last para - I think City know what they’re doing!!! It’s worked so far & they’re perfectly aware of Kun’s age ( but he’ll still get goals)

Jesus’s talent is greater than you give him credit for. He might still be suffering from Covid after effects. All strikers miss goals - but his stats are still very good for his age - he’s still quite young - same age as “young” Rashford & his stats are as good. (NB he’s getting slammed by rag fans for his poor performances!)

City will have a plan for the summer by which time Torres will be even better & he’s only 20 too.

You are so wrong. We have been ‘getting away with it’ for years. Where have you been? Pep hardly ever names an unchanged team. Rotation is what wins us so many trophies. You say we can’t get away with it despite us literally getting away with it. 1-0 win and 4/5 key players rested.
Where have I been, watching City since the early 60s, don't suppose I can shake off typical City yet though, me nerves are shot to pieces until we go 3 up no matter who we play

big picture stuff was that - 3 points and no injuries, United Spurs and Everton all lost.

yep, that was a pretty dull spectacle. Sheff United dug so deep i thought they were going to forget to attack at all but that volley on 85 was so fucking close..... anyway it didnt go in.

More a mixed bag of performances but i think the squad is pretty much there in terms of pecking order now - Cancelo over Walker, Zinchenko over Mendy, Rodri over Fernandinho, etc. The last 'issue' we have is that i think we look amazing at times with no striker but you have to factor in that that puts more pressure on the midfielders to play more game time and gives Jesus no opportunity to find his form again.

all in all, we couldn't have asked for a better january as we head into what could be a make or break February.

Once we scored we came down 2 gears and went to energy coservation mode and made them chase the ball. Clearly a strategy with players also rested, giving rusty players essential minutes as well. Fantastic player management. I expect us to reap the benefit in the months to come.
It's a dangerous game if the 2nd doesn't come.
They got what 10 men behind the ball performances deserve, a narrow defeat.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Mendy, Mahrez and a Stones-Laporte centre back partnership at Burnley.
3 point lead and game in hand on United, 7 points on the scousers. Let's hope the hammers can get a draw minimum. If we do the business at the dentists were in good shape for the February onslaught. By the end of the derby game I suspect we may know if we're looking like champions elect or if it's going to be a scrap until the very end.
