Sheffield United (H) | Post-Match Thread

Well as bad as you think Walker was he still won the most tackles for us and completed 94.1% of his 101 passes; only Foden had better completion stats but made less than half the number of passes.

I also though his recovery pace was useful on occasion.

That foul was daft and he did play conservatively but I'm not sure he jammed Torres in: I think Torres did that himself and is still getting to grips with our positional play game whereas Walker knows it inside out.

Pretty sure he did create at least one thing on his side with a brilliant long ball that put Torres away.

Canelo is though a different proportion going forward but he still is not as good as Kyle defensively and our current success is built on our defence so I see Walker as remaining important to Pep; plus Cancelo can play on the left, where he and Zin must be ahead of Mendy.

Walker was doing his job as part of a back three today and I'm guessing Pep will have been quite happy with it.
I agree mate, thought TH was being a bit harsh on Kyle, it was pretty obvious he was under instruction to stay back today. Pep obviously happy to get a 1-0 and the 3 points and get the fuck out of there on to the Burnley game.

I do think though you could tell how uncomfortable on the ball Kyle is, compared to Cancelo, and the free kick at the end was unforgivable, but his pace and physicality was why he was picked today.

to all those asking for players to be rested, your answer was right there, you cant get away with it, that was far too close for comfort
You are so wrong. We have been ‘getting away with it’ for years. Where have you been? Pep hardly ever names an unchanged team. Rotation is what wins us so many trophies. You say we can’t get away with it despite us literally getting away with it. 1-0 win and 4/5 key players rested.

Not our greatest performance of the season. Thought Bernie held the ball too long at times and Ferna wasn't the passing machine that Rodri usually is. Good job we're rock solid at the back these days with only 1 real scare close to the end. Could easily have ended that match with a couple of fractured cheekbones too so there's that to be thankful for.

Some games just need 3 points and move on. We can’t play ever game full throttle with this schedule so good we got thru with minimal fuss.

Zinc is looking very good at moment.

ref was awful.

Getting really tedious playing games against teams like Sheff Utd , no ambition , no football , just survivalists , its all about the Premier league money , no entertainment value at all , wouldnt cross the road to watch a Wilder team , no doubt he will be moaning about some decision after the game or the money we have spent .Just go and f*ck off and get back where you belong in the Championship , just wasted nearly two hours of my life watching a tedious boring football team who offered nothing . Cheltenham gave us a better game and showed more bottle than Wilders shower of shite.

Surprised teams that like to park the bus dont get called out by the premier league etc. As this style of football can only damage the premier league selling point. Who wants to watch that ?!

Drab game , but it takes two to tango , result more important than the performance it was never going to be a classic , nice to see Laporte back in action and showing his usual class , Jesus goal will give him confidence apart from that an utterly forgettable game.

I didn't say they deserved something from the game. But, as we have seen many times last season teams score from their first effort, and if that shot from Fleck had gone in, I wouldn't say we were hard done by.
You said we couldn't have had any complaints if it would have been a draw..
To me that means you thought they could/should have got a point.
They got what they deserved ie fuck all.

Hard watch at times, especially last 10 mins. 3pts on the board so good stuff anyway. Thought the handball was nailed on pen and the Torres shove 50-50.

Not exactly a vintage performance but three more points in the bag.

This could be a big weekend for us. There is a very realistic chance the Rags and Dippers could both lose which I think would put us four points clear with a game in hand.

I wonder if the media still thinks we are struggling ?

Thought the ref worked his balls off today to try to even things up. Constantly in the way of our build up play on the left, the first ref to get a hard on for foul throws. Two pen shouts ignored ( I know I know ) but we have seen then given for other teams. So if not a pen on Torres for the push why give a foul against Walker for the same thing later on in the half. Took the bastard three quarters of the game before he booked one of their players, Zab always got his in the first 10 minutes ffs.
Great 3 points game won with minimum effort and to think Ruby wasn't the first choice buy, what a player we have. Now lets dick the not rights mid week :-)

Tough watch but 3 points in the bag and we move forward. Another clean sheet.
That's right. The players coming back looked rusty ie walker, Laporte, but we need to rotate the squad and save energy. I thought Zinchenko was superb playing mostly in the midfield, his natural position. It was a bit like the Brighton match. We needed to win and conserve energy.

Very determined performance by us with Ferran doing well to stay on his feet to set up Gabby.
Bernardo was a dynamo absolutely everywhere. Dinho worked hard and I thought Zinch was enterprising. Defence were again rock solid.

The Blades were hard working and kept their shape making them very difficult to break down. I thought they were rather snide going in late and roughing up Foden.

The ref David Coote was shockingly poor. Considering the quality of his fellows that's saying something. He didn't follow concussion protocols and the standard nothing given whenever we were fouled. Shocking that blatant fouls in the box aren't called as penalties. Oh I forgot we play in sky blue.

Dowie on comms did call the very silly so n so out.

Shame this game was like Arlene Foster to WBA's Charlize Theron like performance last week.

For seasoned media watchers the national news carried a report on the early game today but not on the league leaders. Locally a factual statement of results with no mention of how they affected the table.

Bumderers!
