Sheffield Wednesday thread

Story at last getting some decent coverage on the Beeb football pages now, albeit half way down. Grew up in Yorkshire, know a few Owl's and this is really hurting them. Some don't want to walk through the turnstile next season, others determined to stand by them. Whatever happens hope the club comes out of this in some shape or form to take the pitch next season, good luck all.

I have no issues with Sheffield Wednesday, and for the sake of their followers, good luck to them. But surely the most weird second name for a football club after Hamilton Academicals. Any others?
Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs.
FC Cuntum.

Or even Tottenham Hotspur.

Hamilton were formed out of a school and Sheffield Wednesday from a cricket club that could only play on their day off which was … a Wednesday by coincidence.

Proper club and have had it rough for a few years. Decent fanbase and I hope it’s sorted out soon for all involved.
What is a "proper club"? More to the point what is an improper football club other than the obvious red-shirted jokers?
What makes Wednesday more of a "proper club" than others in the EFL or PL?
Someone once told me they were a "proper fan" as they saw Bury 15-20 times a season. Whoopy Doo! At that time I was seeing twice as many City games so How come I (and other fans of PL teams) couldn't be a "proper fan"?

tradition. Good loyal fanbase. Community based football club. Fans looking out for each other. Historic success.
Some great players over the years.

That’s my take on a proper football club.

First cup final I watched
Remember the two hit wonder Trebilcock winning it think Owls were 2-0 up at one point
Trebilcock never heard of before or since that final just checked his Wikipedia he only played 11 times for Everton
Bit similar to Roger Osborne of Ipswich Town ,midfield player who ,scored the winning goal in the 1978 FA cup final beating favorites Arsenal,....then barely played for them again..his career nose dived...in complete contrast to his team mate Brian Talbot who secured a £450k transfer to.......Arsenal.
Story was that Osbourne ,a shy bloke ,couldn't cope with the media attention / limelight which came with scoring a winning goal in what was then, the biggest day in the domestic football calender.... completely ruined his career, bit sad really..

Milton Keynes aren't a proper club.
Or inter miami

When they got relegated from th PL I thought it was only a matter of time before they came back, but they never did.
They must have been so badly run over the last 20 years.

It's a weird thing isn't it? i mean for absolutely no reason whatsoever I've always preferred Wednesday, maybe it's a natural reaction to the Utd/red thing I don't know.
Same I always pick a side. Rangers before I knew anything about the religious sectarian shit. Everton over Liverpool. Sunderland over Newcastle for no particular reason. Ipswich before Norwich then back again
Football is all about rivalries I hope this gets sorted out.

Do we need a club of Wednesday's stature to go bust before the EFL take action over how clubs are actually run?
The Fit and Proper Person test (if applied) only covers events prior to purchase, but any subsequent actions are ignored. Should the EFL have some power to force an owner to sell in the event of wages not being paid on a regular basis and would that even be legal under UK law?
Portsmouth, Reading and Leeds have had well-documented issues in the past couple of decades and I'm sure others have come close to the brink (selling SWP for example).
Perhaps the F&PP test should include the EFL seeing a business plan from the prospective buyer and checking any assumptions (promotions, cup runs and even avoiding relegation etc) are realistic.

Always had a soft spot for them, the only other result apart from whoever is challenging the blues i look out for.

I agree about Inter Miami, and all the Saudi clubs relying on big-name foreign signings.
I'm not sure about MKD as they were just Wimbledon with a new home when they moved, and Wimbledon would have gone bust had they not moved. - The FL were heavily criticised for allowing the move to be such a distance, but Wimbledon's owners had been trying to find a new home ever since they left Plough Lane and even talked of a move to Dublin at one point. The only good thing about MKD is that some locals watch them rather than continuing the tradition of being armchair fans of successful clubs.

He was substituted after scoring as he lost it emotionally
