All a tad harsh on J.C. (did you see what I just did there?) I feel. He is merely reacting to the dare-one-say it, relgious militancy, ungenerous spririt and smug self-satisfaction with which some atheists maintain their conviction that there is no God and that people who believe otherwise are either stupid, wicked or both.

I can certainly understand the intuitive attractiveness of the proposition that we live in a harsh, meaningless universe devoid of any overriding justice to Manchester City fans, but as a Gillingham supporter it is my abiding faith that my reward lies not in this world but in the world to come that keeps me going. I think you have the wrong end of the stick mate. It was johnny that began the thread by running down others who he perceived to have written something they hadn't. He then compounded this by prothletising his view as being the only acceptable view. He then went on to ridicule others for their beliefs. He earned and deserved what he got.

JC never started nothing. H was referring to another thread.

There is no god, the wicked sayeth

"There is no God," the wicked saith,
"And truly it's a blessing,
For what He might have done with us
It's better only guessing."

"There is no God," a youngster thinks,
"or really, if there may be,
He surely did not mean a man
Always to be a baby."

"There is no God, or if there is,"
The tradesman thinks, "'twere funny
If He should take it ill in me
To make a little money."

"Whether there be," the rich man says,
"It matters very little,
For I and mine, thank somebody,
Are not in want of victual."

Some others, also, to themselves,
Who scarce so much as doubt it,
Think there is none, when they are well,
And do not think about it.

But country folks who live beneath
The shadow of the steeple;
The parson and the parson's wife,
And mostly married people;

Youths green and happy in first love,
So thankful for illusion;
And men caught out in what the world
Calls guilt, in first confusion;

And almost everyone when age,
Disease, or sorrows strike him,
Inclines to think there is a God,
Or something very like Him

Of course this proves nothing

Wow I'm going on a cruise, thanks J C, but where are we going, should I pack for warm weather or cold.

Silly me its going to be very hot where us unbelievers end up

Zimmy, another delusional know it all who lies and says anyone who is doesn't fall in line with is views are wrong.
This is what we put up with, and worst of all they run the country and are taking over the educational system.

I don't think that they are stupid, wicked or both. Just frightened.

Atheists are just as arrogant as believers.

Agnosticism is the only possible option.

typical arrogant agnostic...

LOL

I call myself a radical Atheist (as per Douglas Adams) because if you describe yourself as an "Atheist" some people say "Don't you mean Agnostic?".
I have to reply that I really do mean Atheist. I really do not believe that there is a god, in fact I am convinced that there is not a god. This is a subtle, yet very important, difference.
I see not even a shread of evidence to suggest the existence of a god.
I use the term radical atheist to signal that I really do mean it, that I have thought about it a great deal and that its an opinion I hold seriously.
In England we seem to have drifted from vague, wishy washy Anglicanism to vague, wishy washy Agnosticism......... both of which I think shows a desire not to have to think about things too much.

I do not believe-that-there-is-not-a-god. I am convinced that there is no god.
I don't see what belief has to do with it and I hate the way religion has hijacked the word.

Count me in as a crew member.

I think you should be the Captain. I'm not even that certain that there is no God. Technically I am agnostic.... but only so far as I am agnostic about elves etc.

I'd describe myself as a "Scientific Atheist" because outside of mathematics you cant really be certain of (or rule out) anything

I'm probably 1% less of an atheist than you :)

So, do you want the captaincy? :P
