Shit team great days

We did have to endure some shit didn't we! We weren't great before Alan Ball arrived (we did have two 5th place finishes not that long before though) but we plummeted alarmingly over the next few years, ending in relegation to tier 3.
We all have our 'favourite bad games, wasn't at York, but had to endure defeats at Lincoln and Wycome. Remember a couple of soul destroying defeats at Reading's old ground too.(the list is endless)
There was a lot of bad feeling ofcourse but also a lot of humour to help us through.
'Shit team, great fans' 'we're shit and we're getting worse (last bit changed to 'and we're beating, you' at Swindon one time).
The bond and camaraderie between the fans (and team to an extent) was strong. There were some fantastic at certain games atmospheres too, Wigan in the play off semi at Maine Road and the Blackburn promotion game come to mind.
As I said though there was some utter garbage , mostly up to about halfway through the 98/99 season. Would I like to re visit those days? Maybe making the most of some good days out...but most of what happened in those excruciating 90 minutes....fuck. no!!!

Fantastic atmospheres at certain games that should say. Sounds like I've been on the amount of ( required )pre match alcohol from those days!

Played Wimbledon in Croydon in January 99 in the FA cup third round. Selhurst virtually empty apart from 6,000 blues raising the roof. Pissed as a fart remember losing 1 0 I think we had a man sent off and a goal disallowed but no one gave a fuck. Great days indeed.

The blackpool game sticks in my mind incredible support that day/season in fact, the more shitter we got the bigger & more fanatical our fan base became, shit team’s but happy days :)
32,134 at that Blackpool game.

The players were easy to like back then, it’s not like we were shit and had a load of shit knobheads playing for us.

Weaver Weikens Morrison Horlock Dickov Goater are still loved now, never mind at the time. There are statues of some of the best footballers ever to play in this country going up around our ground, but these lads are just important to our history as the lads who are getting statues.

Loved that team… and Joe Royle!

Remember it well only cos I had a stinking cold and couldn't taste the beer in the pub beforehand. Me and a mate only slightly outnumbered in the home boozer. Carl Cort got the winner for them iirc.
