Shit team great days

The players were easy to like back then, it’s not like we were shit and had a load of shit knobheads playing for us.

Weaver Weikens Morrison Horlock Dickov Goater are still loved now, never mind at the time. There are statues of some of the best footballers ever to play in this country going up around our ground, but these lads are just important to our history as the lads who are getting statues.

Loved that team!
I have said many times before that we fans planted our flag in the sand (metaphorically!!) that day v Blackpool. We showed that come what may we love our club. Think I went to 35 games that season

We were certainly 'At the edge'
(of oblivion?)and were thinking we had to 'Go for it 'as we 'Gotta get away' from this division. We had to 'Listen' to our hearts that we weren't just 'Good for Nothing' and surely it 'Stands to reason' that we wouldn't be this shit for ever!!
That Blackpool game really was a ' fuck it I'm sticking with these fools along with my fellow sufferers no matter how bad we are 'wasn't it. Thought we'd walk the Division after that game, reality check by The Thames the following Friday evening though!
(Guessing the first bit will make sense to you going by your user name BTW!)

Shrewsbury in the FAC, 1979. Absolutely shit performance by a shit City team, but a cracking day out. 4 Car loads of us, finished off in grand style by getting kicked out of the Swan at Bucklow Hill on the way back because we were all laughing too loudly ! YCNMIU. Still up there as one of the best away days I've had, even though it was a shit result.

Good to see you're "flying the flag" for the band. Impressive knowledge!

Wasnt there,Millwall away and wrexham were the most interesting days out in that season.Complete inbreds out to see the big team and cause trouble. However the wierdest lot were Gillingham away loads of scum shirts.
Was at the Wrexham away game, seem to remember there being only 3 stands, stand to the right was being re built I think, I remember it being absolutely freezing, I was sat on front row of seats above the standers below and the wind blew right through me that day, got back to the Robin Hood in Swinton for pint and some lads saw the program on the bar and went to great lengths to tell me how they used to support City and were now rags, I simply didn’t have any words for them, what the fuck did they expect me say, congratulations!

I believe it was a record attendance for York City, 5,004,566.
But as with all City positive records it’s been expunged from the collective media mind, so is never mentioned. It’s only the brave persistent souls of our 3bn fanbase (they that have heard of the words ‘Manchester’ or ‘City’ in any context) that keep this immortal day remembered.
