Sadly there is no answer and incidents like this will carry on happening. The gun lobby is too powerful and if they can't do anything after Sandy Hook, they won't do anything after this. You can guarantee there will be calls from some for current gun rules to be relaxed further so that concert goers could have fired back.

That NRA logic is what led to tragedies like these in the first place. Makes one wonder when the penny will finally drop.
Stricter control is the only possible remedy.

I'm a bit freaked out TBH. I was thinking about staying the weekend to watch Chelsea/City in the sports book with a friend but family commitments brought me home Friday. I looked out the window to watch the planes and saw the prep work for the concert but had no idea what it was. It wasn't directly across the Strip, kind of catty cornered.

It's perfectly legal to carry the gun into the hotel, madness.

Some states allow 'Open Carry' which means you can wander the streets effectively carrying a machine gun on your back. Some states allow concealed carry even into Universities ......surprisingly one of the only places you can't take a gun is into Government buildings

Interesting you should say that. I have played the scenario out in my head a few times and it seems a logical progression looking at how accountability law is currently. I can see a person with this event for example making a case that the resort did not do enough to protect it's guests or the public in general. This of course would be evidenced by the fact this man had a small arsenal with him. A case could be made the scope of what he did should not have gone unnoticed by hotel staff. One day that will wash in court most likely.

Now you have your scanners on every doorway, exit and entrance as per the discussion a page or two back. If not right away you will see these companies look to limit their liability as much as possible. If you start a company now working at cost effective easy to install gun detectors i am almost certain those big companies would be on their knees chucking cash at you to develop it quicker. In fact you would be instantly rich you would get so much business.

Absolutely horrendous scenes and tbh it's surprising this sort of thing doesn't happen more often, I guess most lunatic gunmen just aren't as smart as this wanker. Just have to hope it doesn't start a trend.
At the very least it pisses all over the "if the people had more guns they could have defended themselves" bullshit that the NRA normally trot out after this kind of atrocity. Just can't see how anyone can think having automatic weapons should be legal.

Happens all the time. 11,652 gun deaths so far this year. That's an average of 43 a day. It just normally happens in ones and twos but even this won't have a big impact on the overall statistics.

The implied threat they offer is "if you try to change the law, we'll shoot you." To be fair that's a wing of them; plenty of NRA members are modest law-abiding folks who joined when they were young during their gun safety classes. Still, the absolutist lunatic zealots amongst them are in my view effectively domestic terrorists.

An aside, the NRA is now pushing to legalise silencers as well and there's no indication that they won't get it through.
Hard to imagine how many more would've fallen victim before anyone realised what was going on .
