Shooting at Mandalay Bay Resort (Las Vegas)

Unfortunately, gun ownership is a cultural thing more than anything at this point. It's about as American as blue jeans and apple pie. Not only is it written into the constitution (which, by design, is nearly impossible to change) but it's just part of a cultural identity at this point. I don't agree with it, I've never even seen a gun, but it's just not going to change.

Our best bet is slow progress with universal background checks, bans on certain types of firearms, etc. - but for whatever reason that doesn't seem to get any traction either.

Correct, however you cannot buy one legally in the States that switches to fully automatic, only semi automatic, which means as fast as you can pull the trigger
Does that mean that the weapons used in this attack were illegal? Sorry I don't know anything about guns at all other than they are scarily effective at killing folk especially in the hands of psychopaths like this bloke.

Either illegally modified or legally purchased and sold on illegally...unless he had a Class C licence

They are saying he used either a fully automatic weapon or a device fitted to his guns to make them fire more rapidly. They say since he had such a densely packed target to aim at the reduction in accuracy caused by such a device would have been inconsequential, every bullet would have hit a target regardless of aim

Either illegally modified or legally purchased and sold on illegally...unless he had a Class 3 licence. I have not heard anyone ask that question on TV yet and doubt he had one. If he did, it was legally owned!

Well stated.
