1. France's policing doesn't have a great reputation round here. The country has issues it should address.
2. Having said that, I really had to think before I remembered what the trigger was here, despite it only happening a couple of days ago.
3. Because riots in France? You suprise me. In general, France has a long history of "direct action".
4. Young people are expected to disregard and disrespect society's "holy cows", such as symbols of respect for the holocaust.
5. You hope this is enough for most people to feel this isn't the way, and the answer is subtle, not signalling, not strong arming, but emphasising civil society, democracy, equal justice, and so on.
6. But what'll happen is political signalling, "a muscular response", and this will roll over a few years
Just goes to show you, the political wings, right and left, are more prominent now than in my lifetime, and largely it seems they don't care about lives or suffering, they thrive on chaos, and that remains the strongest argument for adults to say, 'NON' to either.
