To those moaning about cuts in police numbers, how about they move into the modern world.
Why in 2021 do they still have a mounted branch ? Ask any horsey person how much it costs to keep a horse complete with horse boxes, full time groomers, vet fees the lot. There may be only 25 cops riding around on dobbin but the actual costs is hundreds of thousands of pounds. Perhaps they should be spending that money on cops that are on the streets arresting shoplifters

My missus clocked a guy blatantly stealing in Morrisons and mentioned it to the check-out woman. 'Oh, yes,' she said, 'he comes in most days. He's banned from coming in, but he still comes. Been to court a few times, but he keeps coming back.'

Some of this shoplifting is down to genuine poverty, in fairness, but we all end up paying for it via increased prices, and that includes the honest poor who have SFA but don't steal.

How you stop it, I have no idea. Society is sick.

One thing you could do is abandon the nonsensical war on drugs. Switzerland and Portugal have decriminalized possession, with extraordinary results in the reduction of crime.
Some sources attribute 50% of thefts to funding drug habits.

Dobbin is very effective in crowd control and was the weapon of choice in beating up football fans. (A GMP speciality)
