Should we prioritise Champions League now?

Can we have an agree with button rather than a like button for posts like this?

Thanks, we have to be honest. We couldn't win it when we were at our peak the last two years and even with everyone fit again, although stronger, I still don't think we would be strong enough. Unless Cancello, Rodri, Mendy, Walker, Jesus and Stones show something they haven't really so far, that gives you the extent of the rebuild needed. Add to that an ageing Silva, Aguero and Fernandinho and possibly Gundolan and we just aren't good enough at the very top level. Cancello and Rodri may come good as they haven't been here long but at the moment it's a big may.

Posts like this are never popular. It doesn't mean I support the team any less, or am a Johnny come lately, or spoilt. I have been here 51 years and seen plenty of bad times. Sometimes you have to take the blue specs off and be brutally honest. I am sure in private Pep is doing the same.

Even then the last 16 ties are spread over 4/5 weeks the same timescale given for the QF/SF ties. By April we'll pretty much know where we are domestically and only then does the question become relevant.......if we get there!

Also after one match in the last 16 we might require a new thread about ‘Prioritising the FA Cup’. Illogical thinking to prioritise any trophy at this stage.

We ought to just concentrate on top 4.

I think that is what we will do. We might as well go strong in the CC and FA cup now.

The gap between us and 5th is still 9 points and at worst 7 after tomorrow so the gap between the next group is similar to what we have above us.

We really need to get Foden playing some games now to get him fully up to speed.

I'm not sure there's energy left in this team to fight it again on all fronts. We have lot of injuries and 3 years with Pep is very draining, specially to some older players that are still important for us.

Should we just secure top 4, eventually play it easy in League Cup and throw everything on Champions League? It's not guaranteed or close to that even then, but I doubt we are strong enough to do it if we go for everything again.

yes, lol

Totally agree with the CL element of your comment.

At the end of the day it's a cup competition, and outside of Liverpool no other clubs in Europe are having stellar seasons with vintage sides, so it's always possible. But yeah the idea of going all in on it always seemed difficult.

That is a brutally honest assessment.

I can take where we are right now as I've been a match going supporter since 1962. It's disappointing but what matters now is how we respond. A major rebuild is required as like you I have major doubts that the squad we have now is anywhere near the level we have had over the last few years.

YES league has gone for us this season, i'd like to see Foden and Garcia get lots more minutes in league see how they step up

No, European football will drain an already tired squad. We're just not at level to compete with Real, Barca, Munich, liVARpool. Carabao and FA Cup is still possible and will add to the trophy cabinet.

Well, on paper this is spot on. But it’s a knock out tournament. We don’t know what the draw will look like for us or for others. We should be getting some key players back which I think will help a lot. We could get lucky while others get unlucky. We don’t really have much choice now about which to focus on. Mostly I want to see us playing entertaining footy and working to compete. I doubt many we’ll face in the round of 16 or beyond if we make it will play pack-the-box football which has been our undoing, but maybe some will.
