Should we recall Joe Hart?

Q. What do we do if Given gets injured?
A. We're loaded.

Only applies in Jan. Knowing shay it'll be on 1st Feb.

But we cant bring him back even if we wanted too, if Shay get's injured then he get's injured, it's up to Mancini to decide in Jan whether having just Taylor as back-up is enough for us till summer.

Joe Hart has done well at Birmingham, but I doubt he'd have progressed as much with our defence around him. In fact the lad's confidence would have been shot.

Shay Given is arguably the best keeper in the premier league and unless he was injured, Joe Hart would only be sitting on our bench. As others have said, he's on loan to the end of the season and it's debatable whether he should come back to us then. Keeping two top class keepers happy is close on impossible.

I'm pretty sure I heard on the radio last week that it wasn't a case of City not putting a recall clause in the contract. Premier League rules prevent such a clause being inserted.

So we couldn't recall him even if we wanted to. Good to see him doing well.

If he has a good WC. Do we sell him at an inflated price as he probably won't want to warm the bench off the back of it.

It only complicates things if we decide to keep him after the season instead of sending him back on loan. I think most people appreciate the benefits of sending him out again for a further year.

I agree, but i have no faith in Taylor. Bobby should look into getting an experienced back up on loan for us in Jan.

The bold shows why this thread exists. People are scared of Shay getting hurt and there being no backup and seeing him lying there for a few minutes on saturday sent shivers down everyone's spine. To me, If Joe Hart went behind the backline we have he'll regress back to the old Hart, which isn't good enough, he's improving loads at Brummie but we need a strong and top class defence before we stick anyone other than Shay between the sticks, Given is a world class keeper and can perform miracles in net regardless of his defence, Joe isn't at that level yet.

If Shay got injured we'd almost certainly be able to get an emergency loan outside the transfer window.

So no need to sign anyone in January IMO.

They'll say you've got a fit replacement called Stuart Taylor.

It is going to complicate things though, moomba, if he is first choice England keeper by the time the World Cup begins.

What will it complicate?

Well, say the likes of Arsenal or Chelski decide it's time for a change. Neither of them have dominant first team keepers and if they came in for Hart, could we justify seeing them off when we know Hart isn't likely to be first choice at City? And would Hart be a happy bunny if we did block that sort of a move for him? He'd be very likely to have a few Lescott moments, I reckon.
