Sick days / mental health days

And roundabouts
Watching people trying to negotiate roundabouts over here is scary. Maybe the younger generation are getting trained on them now but the older drivers have no clue. I’ve never seen anyone else ever use their indicator, they must think I’m mad. Having said that, the nearest one to me is 85 miles away

The place where I work gives me 15 days holidays, one personal day (which is 8 hours and can be spread out for eg 2 hours for a dental appointment) 2 mental health days and you accrue sick time to the amount of 10 days a year and it can be carried over into the next year.

There are 3 staff members at work just taking the piss and constantly calling out and using a sick day and always a Friday or Monday so having a lovely 3 day weekend.

One of them had used all her sick days up so simply called in Friday and said she was using up her final “mental health days” up.

This system is encouraging folk to take days off that they wouldn’t if there was no sick pay and doesn’t reward those who don’t take sick days off when we aren’t sick!

I’ve always been proud that I’ve always had an excellent attendance record at work yet surrounded by slackers and chancers taking the piss.
The world unfortunately is full of moochers and the system allows it

Warrington bin men went on strike in late 2023
Part of their bargaining tool for coming back to work, was "duvet days"

15 days in the US is good! Worked at one place where it was 5 (didn’t stay long) and another where it was 10

Why is it so low in the states? For context, I take the whole of August off and head to France/Italy for the full month. Always have a week in the Canaries in May and at least a week off at Xmas. As long as my hours are done I can do them whenever I want as well. These kind of workplace conditions you speak of are draconian.
