Silva v's Scholes

The problem in this thread is that the only post of any validity is the apples and oranges picture.

They play(ed) a different game and will never be comparable.

Scholes played somewhere between being a box to box midfielder and centre midfield. Due to his inability to tackle he'd be pushed slightly forward in their game plan which enabled him to dictate play knowing that he had cover behind him. Being pushed forward enabled him to collect the ball in space, run onto the ball being cleared out of the opposition's defence and be in a position to join the attack. This combined with a great engine and vision made him the player that he was.

We play with a different set up

Silva: Central attacking midfield playmaker , No. 10, Trequartista (Three quarters), or 'Maradonna' position. Silva is not really expected to track back to defend so much, more to go back to collect the ball and instigate attacking play.

Barry and Yaya: deep-lying playmakers who keep some of the defensive responsibilities of a traditional midfielder.

So you want to be comparing Silva with Maradonna, Hoddle, Le Tissier, Gazza, Iniesta, Pele, Zola, Platini etc and not Scholes.

Some of the anti-Scholes stuff on this forum is ridiculous.

Agree with TFS...the bitterness from some of you is embarassing.

It was a horrible tackle but he got sent off for it at least (for once). Refs should have clamped down on his tackling much more throughout his career but that's not exactly his fault is it?....if they weren't going to send him off more he wasn't going to learn.

Still it doesn't warrant the silly comments from some of our fans...it makes us look small time, which we bloody aren't now. If he was a little shit like Neville it would be different but he isn't. For me him and Silva have similar traits and that can only be a good thing.

Paul Scholes is the best player I have seen playing for that lot. Phenomenol player. To say otherwise is stupid. Is he better than Silva? Not fucking arsed.

The above.

The thing that really impressed me about Scholes was how he adapted his game to compensate for his age. Shows how intelligent he was on the football pitch. Can't stand the guy and was a complete thorn in our side but what a brilliant player he was.

Scholes is the best player I've seen in the premiership. The only rag that I wouldn't give shit to if I saw him walking down the street.
