Singing section/Atmosphere

Thought the South Stand did their best to lift the atmosphere , love the new Guardiola song , and they also started off the "Stand up for Joe Hart" song in the 2nd half , looked like over 40k attendance , disappointed the Romanians didnt fill their seats , there's enough of them working over here.

Maybe not all Bucharest fans though. Would you go and watch the Scum if you were working in a country they happened to be playing in

OFFS get a grip of yourself.I can only assume that if you felt like that you mustn`t have been around in the late 1990s !!

I'l start by saying I began attending matches in around 1980.... 52 now... and have been a season card holder since the move... My season card says support since 1963, the year I was born which I stand by...

It's human decency Oakie.... the lad is clearly gutted he is leaving (though I wish he'd stay and fight it out) and as the great Shaun Goater said on the phone in last night, some players know when a fight is futile and Joe knows he is not likely to win this one... It was pretty obvious that being made captain and starting was significant i.e. it was his last game and therefore I was disgusted that the sparse crowd was thinned down massively by the end of the game..

The lad should have been give a proper send off and that was a whimper.... It feels like we've sunk very low.. the "Emptihad" felt apt last night and I felt ashamed.. the atmposphere was crap which was probably due to the aggregate score line but I feel like we are becoming rag like in respect of expecting success now and therefore the atmosphere suffers as a result.. I dont buy this "new stadium acoustics" shit,,, the away fans were small in number but loud,,, half our crowd are tourists.. the South stand lower the only section that seemed to make an effor for the team and for Joe...

I may need to wipe my fanny as some say but you have to agree with some of my points and therefore agree that we as fans have a lot of work to do....

What struck me (I was in Colin Bell Level 1) was that many of our crowd don't even clap good passages of play or decent moves. They just literally watch. Even the goal barely registered with some. Not all old gits like me either, plenty of young ones, some of who seemed to find their phones really interesting.

I'm not having a go at anyone. I'm just honestly reporting what I saw - that seems to be how it is. In fairness this is pretty much the equivalent of the old Main Stand at Maine Road, and that was always quiet bar the odd occasion.

To be positive, 40k for a dead rubber, is pretty good going; and I didn't find the match as drab as some on here. I thought there was plenty of interest, not least the performance of that new lad, Kolarov. who I presume is the brother of the guy we used to have.

The atmosphere matched the occasion and the quality of football. I thought I got a bargain price ticket at a tenner but at the final whistle I thought I'd been overcharged. But, a win's a win. I said at HT that there's been many a half time in the past where we'd have loved to have had a nil-nil!!

This young fellah is a revelation. He tried a few thunderbolts last night but since he's turned up at CB the radar seems to have gone out of flunter.

Some bloke came in next to me 15 minutes late and left 10 minutes early... Each to their own...

As always on this thread, there's only so much we can do. If you want to improve the atmosphere, get in touch with 1894, move to the South Stand and join in. A wild idea would be to go to the game like normal and join in songs wherever you are in the ground - whether that's full on standing up and geeing on the rest of the crowd around you or just clapping along.

i might be wrong, but i remember reading that the majority of people in 111/110 didn't move to the new singing section. so the kippax corner still has a majority of fans in it from before the move, they just dont sing anymore. apart from the odd game we never have an amazing atmosphere , like the majority of grounds in england. thats only gonna change when tickets are cheaper and standing comes back imo

You're correct with that, There were less than 10 people who relocated from them blocks. When you think the entire 'move' only included around 500 people it's not a huge proportion.

40k? not a chance

How hasn't it worked? I was in 111 tonight and all the noise came from 114/115. the corner joined in enough of the time but it was always started on the other side. I don't know what you were expecting but there's now home fans on either side of the away fans (when they turn up) that sing regularly. It's infinitely better that way and helps attempt to spread the noise to the rest of the ground, they can't be blamed if people sitting elsewhere can't be bothered to join in.

At the risk of sounding Nostalgic, the atmosphere at Maine Road was in decline from the minute they built the new Kippax. The atmosphere at the Brittania is crap compared to the Victoria Ground, The atmosphere at the Emerates is shocking compared to Highbury, The atmosphere at the Riverside is not what Ayresome Park was, The atmosphere at St Marys is nothing like what the Dell was nor The King Power anything like Filbert Street. The elimination of standing (lets look to the swamp pre / post where the club are at the same ground to see this) has reduced the atmosphere in almost every case (Villa Park, Stamford Bridge other cases in point).

One of the few grounds that has maintained any semblance of atmosphere is Goodison.

I have a feeling that most of us grumbling about atmosphere in grounds are of an age at least approaching our 50's, and that what we get now is what football will be for the foreseeable future. I don't see standing coming back, I don't see the end of corporate days out or tourism, nor do I see clubs (such as Everton) deciding to remain as they are and not rebuild old grounds or build new ones.

With core support watered down with apathetic tourists and corporates (everywhere) football is becoming like going to the theatre.... Enjoy the show on the pitch, and give some applause at the end....

At least half the people behind the goal, didn't bother singing at all. I'm usually closer to the other end so have wondered about it is.

Well now I know. Some lads tried relentlessly to get songs going, A percentage joined in every song, as I did, a larger group joined in sometimes & about half just stood there like fucking zombies whilst people in front & behind them were singing.

Waste of space.

In summary the game's fucked..... shame but I agree with you. It's a pity in some ways that we remember the past

I would say however that there have been occasions at the Etihad where it's been rocking... the 4-1 v the rags a good example... so we can do it can't we

40k? not a chance

According to the new Inside MCFC Twitter feed about an hour before the game they reported that 41349 tickets were sold. There could have been some on the scheme who didn't show as tickets on the planner as sold were evidently empty at the game. To be honest anything over 40000 for a dead rubber was pretty good to be fair.

The fact that we don't have that many match going fans in the 18-25 age range doesn't help matters regarding the atmosphere. Take a look around you home and away and we must have one of the oldest supporter based around excepting the many under 14s in the family stand. Even at away games the number of 'lads' is minimal and virtually every club coming to the Etihad seems to have plenty in this age range.
