"Singing section you're having a laugh"

You get the best atmospheres when the singers stand at the front rows stand/block. The sound carries around the ground far better that way.

When singers congregate at the back of a stand the sound is gulfed by the overhang and only travels down the block. Therefore the rest of the stand struggles to hear any songs, never mind the rest of the ground.

Until the Singing Section realises this the atmosphere will never be much cop for non big Prem games (they take care of themselves) and will carry on struggling.

Agreed about the overhang but atmosphere unequivocally comes from the back rows, not the front. Unless you're Crystal Palace. But we really don't want to be them.

Personally I'm quite sick of the fake Kippax. I've never understood the obsession of the Blues in that corner with slagging off the South Stand. Has the experiment been 100% successful so far? No, but it's early days. I've barely fucking heard the fake Kippax so far this season. You never hear South Standers slagging off that corner of the ground but the fake Kippax are obsessed with this "bigger Blue than you" mentality. I've never really said anything about this before because I see the irony in criticising Blues about slagging off other Blues, but yesterday was pathetic considering a) the general feeling of disappointment regarding the game and b) the fact that the fake Kippax have gone quiet this season. Hopefully yesterday was a one-off & the South Stand project can kick on while that corner can concentrate on itself.

was sat in the east stand level two... and thought the atmosphere was brilliant.
very loud..
yep - we went quiet for a short time but on the whole pretty excellent.
well done

I sat in 318 top tier south stand for the first time..my experience..quite loud in small snippets.one nil down was expecting us to be the 12th man..it didn't happen. The kippax of old used to be a wall of noise.should be and could be a whole lot better.where's all the old songs? CITY..CITY..CITY!!! We sang from the kippax.didn't hear this once..my verdict.. must do a lot better.

Im right at the back of 318...it was crap yesterday like you said.chelsea awesome ... Watford so so...yesterday well...just a few ( me included) trying .but its a lot better from the famillystand where Iv just relocated from.

No one is going to take a lecture from.anyone in 110 about singing when the so-called 'singing section' there hasn't done anything for 5 years !!!

If the presence of more singers in 114 115 is waking 110 up then brilliant. That means its working

The atmosphere WILL get there so pls be patient. We have tried our best and badgered the club into giving us a section. Half of 114 and whole of 115 is 1.1k seats. We had 700 ask to move in there of which 593 sent full details to us in time. Of those 593 some that had agreed to come to 114/5 went upstairs to tier 3 as it was cheaper so we have probably only got half singers in there and half non singers. We can only work with what we have. We asked people to come and apathy or whatever this is what we are left with.

So you get a situation where hardcore singers are belting out songs as much as they can and you have new fans in there not carrying the song forward.

Its still better than what it was. And we are in touch with the ones we helped to move. But its not 1.1k singers in there so until we can get the rest of them to change their mentality (may take time) you will have to bear with us

Why don't we we ROAR and create a real loud din at our corners particularily in front of Three tiers at the South End ?

It's so passive and lacking in intensity yet is one of the best opportunities to 'suck the ball in'. Almost every other ground is a din for home corners.

Also,I think we should create a 'tradition' by a great rendition of "Sheik Mansour Mi Lord" immediately on Kick off after 'Blue Moon'. Respect to the BIG BOSS.....gee up to the players players and.....a reminder to ourselves of how much we owe to him!!

Over to 1894 to start and the rest of us to support.

i know its going to sound cheesy and embarrassing, but as I've mentioned before i think the 1894 group should hand out leaflets in the singing block explaining if your are in a singing section you have to sing.

The problem I've noticed when in 119 for recent games is the rest of the south stand not joining in and often silent, apart from the guys stood at the back

That's bollox and has feck all to do with it. When the Kippax was shut for renovation and we relocated to the North stand all the singers congregated at the very back of the stand, sound was not gulfed by the overhang then.

Don't know what the OP is on about. :-?

No, it wasn't great at times on Saturday, but at other times the support from both singing sections and the stadium as a whole has been pretty decent. Last season you would have heard a pin drop against West Ham.

The lesser games will always be quiet, especially when we're getting beat at home. The big games with the right results will produce a great atmosphere at the Etihad this season.

What I will admit is there isn't six hundred dedicated singers who have relocated to the new singing section. There's a couple of hundred at most, with others joining in as and when, and others not joining at all. In essence it's just like blocks 111' 110' 109. Not only that, many of the singers are spread around 115 and 114, instead being grouped together.

TBH I don't think anything will change any time soon as regards a real and dedicated singing section until the majority of the fans organise it amongst themselves. In my opinion the new singing section won't ever reach it's full potential unless this happens.

Saying that. The concourse before the match and at half-time is potty. It's not like that behind 111, 110', and 109, where I used to stand. I can only imagine what it's going to be like against the likes of United, Liverppol, Arsenal, etc.

Good post Jrb.

Fake Kippax?? don't talk out of your ass. The reason that name is attached to that stand is because many of the people who used to be in the Kippax at Maine Road initially relocated there when we switched to COMS.
There are lads however who I remember who used to be in the kippax who are all over the show in the new stadium now.... or many just sat in a local boozer (haha)

But it does seem the joke has flown over many heads regarding this so called "rivalry"
When we're singing: singing section you're having a laugh" it isn't with hatred or anything, it's to actively encourage others to sing with some humour thrown in.
it's a fucking laugh. if you can't see it as banter then seriously get a grip.
Many friends are in the SS - why would I want to mock them?

And yesterday we sang non stop in 112/111 for 90mins... there isn't any other reason why my throat is fucking sore right now because of it.
I couldn't give a monkeys if all the family daytrippers in the north stand sung loud all day, as long as we're all singing - what's the problem?

it's fucking loud anyway, and much louder than the same fixtures last season.

I think @blue b4 the moon has a very valid point about kicking towards the South Stand second half.

Many times we need to get a goal second half and to kick towards our most fervent/loud supporters makes absolute sense, rather than towards thousands of kids with their parents whose first priority (rightly) is to ensure their offspring's safety.

Superb post blue.

This is something the club overlooks.

We need to kick off at the SS (or untill the new North stand is expanded with singers in there)

The vocal lot from the Kippax relocated in he North Stand when it was knocked down and generally did not relocate back to the Kippax with seats. Plus there was a gap in the corner with the Gene Kelly being put up where 111/112 is and no one had a season ticket there.

I think people look back on the old Kippax with rose tinted glasses, I have been on the Kippax many times when the atmosphere was crap. Yes when it was loud it was great, but lets not kid ourselves that it was always like that. The noise this season has been far better than in previous years at the Etihad, even yesterday considering the result. I sit in 315 and thought the support for the team in general was good. The 1894 group have done more than most to help improve things, it's now up to the rest of us to get the place rocking.
