Single malt whisky

Drinking gin is a lot less confusing.

Not according to my daughter, multitude of flavoured gins, which have to be paired with the right flavoured tonic, and then adorned by a slice of complementary (in the taste bud sense rather than the "ooh your a nice looking gin" sense) slice of fruit, Whisk(e)y on the other hand, with or without an E, as I can never remember which is which (mainly cos I don't care) is a simple drink, which suits me fine

Not well up on scotch and am not overly a fan of the smokey, peaty flavour.
However my godson got me a selection for Christmas and there was an excellent single malt Speyside in there.
Very smooth. Really enjoyed it.

What was it called?

Christ I don’t know. Was the Christmas before the one just gone.
Think it was a twelve year old.
Got me a gift set of three, of which the Speyside was definitely the nicest.

I would normally be more into Irish Whiskey as I’m not a huge fan of the peaty taste, but I’ve had a few Scotch which were really good. Usually over in England at my brother in law’s.
He had Old Cardu which is a Speyside I believe and I seem to remember a Glenmorangie a good number of years ago.
I treated myself to a Chivas Regal in Barcelona a few years back. That’s a Speyside I believe but don’t think it’s single malt. Was really good anyway.

I’ve always found most of AnCnoc’s offerings to be very medicinal but I haven’t tried the 18Y — worth a go, even given my preferences?
Its a Speyside, it's strong but smooth as silk. Only ever had a couple of bottles, as it's right at the top end of what I will pay, but I do find it very agreeable indeed.

May pick up a bottle this weekend, then, as I need to replenish the stock.

I’m working my way through the 101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die* reference that a mate gave me a few years ago.

nice list, I currently have the Bowmore 15YO and the Balvenie 14YO Caribbean Cask both of which are very good, haven't tried the other distilleries but I did stay for a week a couple of years back about a mile from the Abelour distillery and couldn't get on a tour as they were all booked up :/
