if this happens and liverpool get 4th il be absolutely devestated,id rather they got 4th by earning it not by us losing 6 points

Didn't either Maidstone and/or Aldershot fold mid-season??
maidstone resigned a couple of days before the season started and aldershot went bust with around 15games left

You're quite right, Aldershot were the last Club to be wound up during the season.

Mate, honestly if we get deducted 6 points now there is no chance we will still finish 4th. I am not even saying that this is a conspiracy but we would effectively buttfucked if Pompey are liquidated.
Its not really 6 points though the chances are our rivals would win their 2nd game against Pompey so there losing the chance of 3 points then take into account they all have to play at ours I think were still in a good position,i'm not saying we will pull it off but if were good enough even with this setback it's still ours if were good enough.
This is what's confusing me. The way everyone is talking, I assumed Liverpool had already lost twice to Portsmouth. But they haven't.

If Portsmouth were to go bump today, Liverpool would stay on 44 points and we'd drop down to 38. But we'd still have 14 games to play, whereas they'd only have 11 left to play. So we effectively gain a game in hand, don't we?

I accept it's not ideal, as you'd always rather have the points on the board than games in hand, but it's not quite as bad as is being made out.

Or have I completely misread it?

The way I understood it, all of the results of the season thus far would stand, but everyone else yet to play Portsmouth would get an automatic 3 points. If they were to deduct points, The League would get raked over the coals by every team effected, and they just can't afford that.

Pretty much, we'd have 3 games in hand but we would be 6 points behind. At the moment we are on equal points with 2 games in hand.

They are in a much stronger position if the Pompey results are wiped and we, currently, are in a much stronger position.

No if they were to cease trading the points would be deducted it's in the PL rule book.

The Independent (posh aren't I !) have an article in today. They say the definitive answer is that if Pompey get wound up by the courts, i.e. go bust, all of Pompeys results are wiped off so City will be deducted 6 points. Liverpool on the other hand lost when they played them away and have yet to play them at home so they would benefit. This could very seriously affect 4th place.

If Pompey are wound up the table would look like this
Chelsea P: 25 55pts
Scum P: 24 51pts
Arse P: 24 46pts
l.pool P: 25 44pts
Spurs P: 25 40pts
Villa P: 24 39pts
City P: 22 38pts
So if we win our 2 games in hand we are level with liverpool. Bearing in mind we are currently level on points with Liverpool but with 2 games in hand it is totally sh*t.
We need Pompey to go into Administration so they just lose 10 points. I fear a typical City moment. Remember how Liverpool denied Everton a place in the Chamions League a couple of years back ? WE really have to pull our finger out and go for fourth especially as we play Liverpool at our ground.

We wont be docked points. The reason is, they wont put pompey out of business untill the end of the season at the earliest.

It would make no sense this far into a season. How many teams would get relegated? Would it mean only 2 teams came up from the championship? It would have a knock on effect through out the whole country, and would have every team in uproar.

It wont happen so we dnt need to worry about it!

They most defintely will

There were two other teams in court that day Cardiff and one other - BOTH were given another 28 days because they have a good chance of paying up.

Portsmouth quite simply have been given a reprieve of 7 days indicating that the situation at pompey is very very different to that at Cardiff for example.

If i was HMRC (and not anCity fan) i would shut the fookers down - why you ask because they are able to find 1.8 million a month to pay the wages yet only offer 90K - pompey are insolvent simple as and almost certainly will go under next week unless they find a backer as will our top 4 chances
