Rule 12.
Fouls and misconduct.
The first three subheadings of charges, jumps at and kicks or attempt a kick mane did .
The rules are spelled out quite clearly. Yes mane didn't intentionally set out to karate kick ederson in the face but he was out of control and was reckless which results in a caution , which in this case was a deserved red.
I'm just watching the match again and the first thing Neville could muster up after the incident was that it was OUR fault as our defence was all over the place.
He moaned and fussed about otamendi and the back 3 all match, he just couldn't get over himself and view the sending off professionally which made him look very amateurish as usually his commentary and views are pretty bob on.
That may be an older version than this season's. relevant sections are
Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and/or endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off, [my bolding - note the OR]
Playing in a dangerous manner
Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury. A scissors or bicycle kick is permissible provided that it is not dangerous to an opponent.
A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play. Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.
