Sky - Mané Red card poll (official appeal rejected)

Having reflected on this i would say the following.
The one fact that is being missed by everyone is that Ederson was the favourate to get to the ball not Mane, He was able to get his head to the ball without diving for it, If Mane had chosen to go with his head or chest the chance would have gone as he was never getting there first. As such he takes a gamble and lunges forward with his foot, he miss judged the challenge and was rightly sent off. He clearly saw he keeper and made the decision to go for the ball, once he did this he had to take the ball and the moment he failed there was no option but to send him off.

Just switch this one for a minute, If Mane had just clipped the ball past Ederson with his head and Ederson had come flying out of his area with a kung fu kick catching Mane in the face would it have been treated any differently?

You have to factor in the height of the challenge, the fact that the studs were showing, the fact that Mane was fully aware of Edersons position, the speed of the player when contact was made. All of these facts make the tackle dangerous and reckless.

It's funny how the line " I would expect him to make the challenge " keeps getting rolled out.
Lineker.
Shearer.
Wright.
Sutton.
All forwards and mostly ****s.
Maybe the others would but Lineaker would be running the other way.

Both feet were off the ground and had he hit the ball it would have gone into the crowd. If he was really trying to flick it over Ederson's head then why was he in mid air. I have seen plenty of goals where the striker flicks the ball over the advancing keeper (Foe at Sunderland for example) but never when the striker is flying through the air and totally out of control. Lineker and his mates are morons.

By rights the 3 match ban should be extended for a frivolous appeal but I'd be amazed if it was. If it was Aguero on Mignolet, the Scouse media would be demanding an 8 game ban or if it was Sterling they'd be demanding a prison sentence.

The comparisons with Winston Reid on Mounie are also ridiculous. Reid should also have got a red but it was his instep not his studs that hit Mounie's face.

I don't think Reid 's was a red at all. As I saw it, Mounie pushed Reid who was already in the process of swinging his leg, so Reid was falling over as he was trying to play the ball. The only reason he was out of control was because Mounie had pushed him.

Meanwhile, in an alternate universe:

Mane would have been told to not be stupid again for losing Liv the game.
Liverpool's shocking capitulation would be under the spotlight.
A debate around flying kicking would be had.
Ederson would be hailed a hero for his bravery in that save.
Mane and Liverpool would not be appealing at risk of 4 game ban because everyone knows it was a dangerous flying tackle.

Do you have directions to that universe? Because I'm fucking sick of this one.

These are my thoughts too. People keep referring to it as a 50/50 ball. It was more like a 70/30 in Ederson's favour if they both go for it cleanly and safely. Mane lunging in recklessly made it more like 60/40 in Ederson's favour. Ederson clearly won it. I don't think Mane meant to hurt him but he was obviously aware Ederson was coming hence his decision to throw caution to the wind and go in like that. The second he makes that decision, he HAS to be 100% sure of winning it and also be certain his leg will be down again before impact, otherwise he's endangered his opponent and the end result speaks volumes. Did he intend to take him out? No. However he was negligent and his going for the ball at all costs and worry about the rest later approach resulted in someone getting hurt quite badly. I don't disagree that most strikers would want to go for that ball, but they can't go in studs first both feet off the ground. It wouldn't be allowed at knee level so who should it at head level?

A couple of commentators have even tried to blame Ederson asking "what was he doing out there?". Ederson is fully entitled to play anywhere on the pitch he wants and what has been lost here is the fact it was a great piece of goalkeeping. If he'd have stayed on his line then it's a goal for Liverpool, instead he bravely comes out and wins the ball.

Someone has given them the nod to appeal,it wouldn't surprise me that with the help of the media it gets reduced
When you think ky got done for aggressive glancing...
