Slovakia v England match thread

He will not.
Nor will Jose
Nor did van gal
Nor did moyes.
Contractual issues underpin so much of big business such as football.Whoever advises Wayne Elephant (in the room) imo should be knighted, cos when he held fergie scum and the rags to ransom those few years ago he got probably the most brilliant contract ever given in the history of football. He is clearly contracted to play,if fit ,for utd and England and cannot be dropped.the 300k per week means he is stealing a living and taking the piss out of his club side and the national team.is his agent still Paul Stretford? Whoever he is he makes Yaya and pogba agents look like amateurs....and yet this clever man gets no grief from the media.the player has been awful for a good three seasons now and there is not a single thing any person can do to halt the embarrassing scenario cos Rooney, the elephant, is protected by contract law.
The announcement from Ellie that he is to play for england for a further two years merely confirms my view that that as far as utd and England are concerned the tail is definitely wagging the dog.
I ,for one am pleased he is holding back utd, imagine if they had a skilful, mobile goalscoring no.10..one who scores and assists with the regularity a top class player on a huge contract should. At the moment Ellie has about as much cutting edge as Paul Dickov...good thing his agent is a little sharper...
You are right. Stretford has and still is playing a blinder. He's uses his influence in the press as well as with clubs. Just look at the soft shite Shrek documentary. Can't knock him for being top of his game but he's still a **** nonetheless.

Allardyce, who took over from Roy Hodgson in July, says he "can't stop" Rooney from dropping into midfield, claiming that the player has a "lot more experience at international football" than he does.
For me, this is the strangest and most worrying part of what he said. Yes, international football is different to the PL in terms of pace and style, but I still can't see how a player's experience at playing international football should trump a manager's experience in coaching at club-level. It's not as if international football is of a better standard than Premier League - probably the opposite, in fact. If the FA think's he can manage the England team than surely that is an endorsement of his ability to make strategic and tactical decisions in an international football match?!

"Bis Sam, I need to play deep in midfield."
"What makes you say that?"
"I have a lot more experience at international football than you do."
"Right, OK, sure."

I can't help but think that any England manager would be required to shoehorn Rooney into the side. When I saw that Hodgson was playing him in midfield in the Euros, I just thought "Well, that's because Roy is an idiot". But now we're seeing Sam Allardyce - a manager notorious for sticking to basics and being stubborn about it - doing the same.

I was driving home and listening on TalkShite for the commentary.

Sterling had a good game, and was one of the few players receiving some credit for trying to make things happen. Most of the blame was put at Kane's door for not offering to feet and letting people run off him, i.e. we kept going sideways and backwards.

Stuart Pearce was crying out for Stones and Dier to be swapped to let Stones play in midfield and dictate getting the ball forward as he was the only only trying to play between the lines.

Certainly from listening, it sounded like both of them tried to implement what Pep has been teaching them, in getting the ball forward and play, but didnt have the required support to do it effectivly.
Cheers for that.
I didn't see most of the game and watched the last 15 mins without knowing Slovakia were down to 10 men!!
And we still looked inept.
Some other poster described Slovakia as a "tough" match..I don't agree and and when they were reduced to ten men we really should be taking them to the cleaners and putting a marker down.
I wouldn't want Stones to play midfield for england..I'd like him to concentrate on his preferred position, not have to worry about being a playmaker for the national side.
It says a lot when the captain of the team Ellie the elephant ,is playing so poorly that a nomark like Pearce is offering advice which involves helping Ellie out by putting a centre half alongside him.
I worry for both Sterling and Stones under what is clearly going to be stone age coaching from BFS..the man who moans that foreign managers get all the plaudits for technical nous but when put in the hot seat, declares, nationally, that he cannot force a player to carry out the role on which he has been told to.
It beggars belief.

The most pathetic thing i have ever heard from a manager, he should be sacked instantly, the overweight useless coward.
And just one week after the equally pathetic moyes says his side face a relegation battle after two matches in the prem.
These English managers are so hard done to ,no one ever notices their tactical nous...and ability.

Every single player in the England team has 'more international experience' than Sam. So, they all get to play where they want?...there will be tears before bedtime.....

Just read big Sam's comment on Rooney pmsl.

What an absolute farce!

And if you can't do either?

I guess some get lucky. Margetson was a shocker - I remember him being played in the last game of the season at Goodison and he was so bad we had to take him off at half time. There must be a 1,000 or more role ahead of him for that job. What a joke.
