Smart TV's, recommendations please

Stoner speaks the truth. It is a load of rubbish. You want good spec on stuff that matters. App stores and such are rarely polished, updates are not regular, interface is often poor, software "spies" on you by default, you have to go to settings and opt out manually. Built in wifi is, imo, not as strong as a firestick either very often.

Get a good TV and then stick a firestick in it. They are well optimized, have good wifi ability, software is updated regularly.

Consider where the tv will go, no point getting a 110" tv if you have a small room.

What is your price range?

I bought a LG smart TV when they first came out, well one of us was a dumb F because i could not get the APPs i wanted and the CPU was slow for everything, get the best TV for the picture and buy a 4K Firestick for £40 quid.

As alternative to Fire Stick I also recommend the Chromecast with Google TV. much wider app library (for IPTV) can sideload apps easily, has Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, iPlayer, etc, etc

If you have money to burn get the Nvidia Shield, by far the best cord cutter box out there.

We bought a 43”JVC with built in Fire TV, Netflix, Prime, Disney+ .
Was dead easy to add IPTV as well.
£350.
Also have LG 58" which is great, use a Xiaomi Stick for the IPTV in that.

I got either that or a similar JVC one for £279 to put in a rental property.

I have a bog standard Samsung hd tv about 10 yrs old. Very reliable. Rather than upgrading for smart tv, am I better off just getting a firestick? And which one?
Not a prolific watcher except football.

I had a 12 year old Samsung Plasma HD TV and just recently upgraded to a larger Samsung 4K Smart LED TV. Apart from anything else it is half the weight and uses a quarter the power. Although there’s only a couple of 4K channels, the picture’s incredible when using the 4K. With the reduction in power usage it will probably pay for itself in about 4 years.
