Snooker

I used to think that, went to a couple of exhibitions earlier this year, one was Ronnie and the other Jimmy and the latter was so much better.

Never understood the level of overwhelming support he has at every event. You’d think rooting for the underdog would happen but it never seems to when Ronnie is involved.
I think there’s an element of ‘not knowing’ how long you’ve got Ronnie for, and especially now as he gets older.
We also don’t have many characters left in the game and the new generation aren’t anything special either.

That’s true, he’s had it all his career though, even when he’s been a complete bellend.

It’s quite a dull sport when you take the flawed humanity of people like O’Sullivan, White and the Hurricane out of it. They make it worth watching so much more than successful but boring corporate robots like Davis and Hendry.
Davis only became universally popular as a character when he became shit at snooker

I get that, it doesn’t mean they deserve the lions share of support in every single game though.

They are more attacking naturally though. They are the ones the people want to see, not just because they are characters.

Hendry was liked when he was winning more than Davis probably due to being more attacking than Davis.

Ebdon, Dott and Bingham ground out wins and were all quickly forgotten.

Yeah, that’s actually an interesting question whether their game and style was actually influenced by their characters or just a coincidence
I have no idea how people can choose to support someone like, say, Selby, the snooker equivalent of Pulis era Stoke

The Jester from Leicester really doesn’t deserve that nickname. He is really good at safety play though, which I enjoy watching. He is the modern day Nigel Bond though!

I quite like Ding too. He’s opened up a bit in a way no other Chinese player has and you can see he’s a good lad with a decent sense of humour.
