So, if we don't win the Prem..

For us fans winning any sort of trophy is not failure, but in the eyes of the board and the owner to have only won a League Cup in two years would be an embarrassment for them.

With the team we have had in the past two season - which has been the overall outstanding team - it should have won the league last season and this season. OK, we are not out of it this season but two more defeats and game over I reckon!

I am being brutal here, but compared to PSG we have failed in the CL.

Lets not forget Chelsea got to a semi final in their first season under Abramovich if I remember, even Tottenham got to a quarter final in their first outing!

Most of our CL improvement this year came from getting an easier draw that made it very hard for us to fail in group stage. CSKa and Plzen's level just wasnt any great, not even tricky teams, playing on counter or having anywhere near in quality.
Best thing was probably we did have the same points as Bayern, and beating them away but it did matter one bit, and when it could have matter and get the first place it turned out our manager didnt know the pretty easy rules.

Dont know how the coefficient table stands, I hope we can make the 2nd pot and avoid a group of death its more than enough we will get Bayern or Real or Barca again anyway probably.

New manager, new players. Was always gonna be next season for me. The fact that we were still in all three remaining trophies as of last Sunday morning, and the only team to be so, has perhaps weighed heavily on muscles and bones.

If we don't win the PL then MP and RC and the gang will be strengthened in the Summer and we should be back to the good old high scoring days again. We are only gonna get better.

I would definitely, not just because we didn't win, but because for the second year running we have failed to capitalise on the relative weakness of our opposition.
If Chelsea win this year, and it's looking more and more likely, it will be even harder next year when Mourinho gets the players he wants to fit into his system. Don't forget, he's still making do with the players he inherited and they still lack a decent striker.

The biggest thing that's pissing me off about getting knocked out of the champs league tonight is that we prioritised a game that was always out of our reach, and it cost us a place in the semi final of the FA cup, and our players will be mentally and physically drained for our game against Hull, and that could cost us the league too.

Don't get me wrong, I was delighted with another trophy, but it's small consolation for the big prize. I'm not being a spoiled **** either, I remember the bad times, and I don't want to go back to them. I just think we are a different club with higher targets, and unfortunately we are falling short of them.
With this squad and with the current state of our rivals we are underachieving.
We're not "ickle city" anymore and we should rid ourselves of that attitude were we are grateful for just being there and competing with the big boys.

Good post stony and bang on the money.

It's a reasonable argument that has been put across but take a second and turn it round. If it is us that finish as winners then Chelsea fans may argue that we were there for the taking. We have been shown to be weak at centre back and lacking top quality cover for the central midfield area's. Not to mention the complete change in tactics regarding how we defend as a side which as we all know cost us a lot of ground in the first months.

I don't buy the underachieving part not just because we have one Trophy in the cabinet already but because of some of the outstanding Football we have been fortunate to witness and that includes high scoring wins against team's that are perceived as genuine rivals. We had even bagged 4 against United before we declared after an hour !

We have seen progress off the pitch commercially and the prospects of some home grown talent entering the first team soon appear to have increased. The only disappointment for me has been the Wigan cup tie. That though is the beauty of the FA Cup; shit can happen - incidentally, I don't hold the Manager responsible for that.

Unless we collapse dramatically and with a spine as strong as ours I really can't see it happening then I think progress has been made overall for the season.

Given where you guys were a month or so ago, losing out in the title is bound to be a disappointment when some were tipping you for the quadruple however if you end up with just the one trophy and CL football guaranteed for next season, it's not the end of the world.

True. Just getting over the disappointment

Utd fans going on about where's your quadruple now, but where are they?

With City struggling with games and injuries and Chelsea just being difficult to beat, Liverpool are genuine darkhorses so I'll be hoping Utd beat Liverpool.

I'm not sure City have enough in the tank to beat Hull at the weekend, but after that we'll be very strong and focused

That's about ten times you have said that about hull. What makes you think we can't go there and win? Surely not tiredness?

The record of teams who go away in Europe for big games and play away games in the Premiership afterwards (and foreign Leagues). Happens so many times.

Don't you remember Wenger and Ferguson kicking off about their fixture schedules in years gone by when they found out that they were playing an away game after a Champions League tie

The players will be physically and mentally drained.

I don't subscribe to that, and I do remember their moans about it too. There is something drastically wrong if a person can't pick himself up to play their next game 3 days later.
I see no reason why our lads can't be up for this game.

One PL win in three seasons with this squad would be frankly embarrassing. Our competitors rely very heavily on two players. If Chelsea lost Hazard in my opinion game over for them. If Liverpool lost Suarez game over. City can lose Kun and it is not game over. They could lose Silva and it's not game over. We have far more quality. And I imagine the players know that and would be very disappointed if they lose the league.

The question would then be how much they blamed themselves or whether they reckon Pellegrini is costing us with his lack of defensive nous and over glorification of goals.

Sorry for being pedantic , but Arsenal were still in all 3 remaining trophies as of Sunday morning surely ?
