So playing the weakened team against Utd worked out

I don't think we lost the derby because we fielded a weaker team. I think we lost because Jose decided to field a very strong team if that makes sense. I don't think anyone was expecting him to rock a full strength side. If he would have fielded a similar one to us then chances are we would have probably won
agreed, I read pretty much the same on the Utd forums (It's so fun going there nowadays) - "why did the manager play full team agsint City reserve team, they are knackered now" after the fenerbache game.

That's exactly it. In lots of ways that night was a big humiliation for them because it showed that they are now the club with the small time mentality, the club who aren't good enough to prioritise bigger competitions and are obsessed with toppling their better local rivals. that's why it was funny when we sang "1-0 in your cup final", and why I was hardly bothered when I left the stadium.

The irony was that until Kompany went off, it looked like our reserves would beat their first team. Now that would have been a humilation for them. Our big guns would have got half a dozen that night against that lot, but wouldn't have been fresh enough to dig in in that second half against BArcelona. So it was of course the right thing to do.

But not at the risk of being fatigued for the Barca game. Remember pep has a great reputation that he would like to protect and he's the manager not a fan
But it the fans that pay to watch the team at least it was not as bad as the shambles against Chelsea last season. To be honest it was a pretty decent team at the swamp and the rags had to put there strongest team out to get a result

the biggest insult to the swamp dwellers is that they knocked our reserves out of the last resort cup then had to watch out first team give Barcelona a hiding. The less relevant and insignificant they feel the happier I am. It's a good job us fans aren't running the show, we're a emotional bunch

Where does this idea that he played a weakened team with the Barca and Baggies game in mind come from?

He adopted a policy for the League Cup, he simply continued that policy against the rags rather than giving them special treatment. The end.

So he had no choice in the matter? Right.....

I've see some bizarre reasoning on here but this is enterprise class.

I've seen some bizarre word twisting on here but this is enterprise class.

Oh dear. You asked where the idea he played a weekend team came from. Then you said he was continuing his own policy of playing a weakened team. So I'd suggest the idea came from Pep and it was his choice.
