This may be too early to tell but for me one to keep a close eye on is the special attention i get the feeling we have been receiving from referees. I for one am concerned that we are getting unnecessarily carded by the match officials especially in the last couple of games against Arsenal by Clattenburg and against Chelsea by Dean. The stats show that our last 2 games have received more cards than in any other game that weekend, accepted that both teams have been carded but us more than our opponents.

Is this an attempt to punish our strong, physical style of play that has been universally appreciated and applauded by ex playing pundits? As a one off game you can suffer a card happy referee but if this is special treatment the cards will quickly mount up and bans will come into play. After 5 games we currently have 5 players on 2 yellows and 2 players on 3 yellow cards, if this continues at present rate we will be looking at 5 players with a 1 match ban and 2 players with 1+2 match ban by 31 December.

One to watch out for ?

bang on the money. was going to post the same but been busy.

its yet another attack on us. we are having like 60/70% possession and get getting 3 times the cards our opponants are. it doesn't add up.

they are at it.

I hear what you're saying. I'm based firmly in the agenda/bias against Manchester City camp so I've also noticed it. However, there is a rather strange phenomenon developing regarding the anti-MCFC brigade. The weapons (FFP and general negativity) that the FA, broadcasting media, pundits and press have aimed at us is actually working in our favour. FFP would have been a catastrophe if it was introduced before Sheik Mansour took over the club and had time to develop the project. The reality is we're now cemented into the top four of the EPL so ironically we're now protected by the very thing they were hoping would stunt us. The daily and weekly negativity we receive from the broadcasting media and pundits is being harnessed by the club to develop a siege mentality; something Fergie spent years trying to develop. The abundance of cards we're receiving will lead to suspensions which will raise public and media awareness which will end up being the perfect platform for the club to highlight and demonstrate the bias towards our historically fair play club. We've never been known as a dirty team and the same is true today.

It is pretty obvious the reasons why we are receiving a number of bookings of late. Like the beginning of last season we are being very aggressive in attempting to win possession back high up the pitch to enable us to dominate possession of the football.

The risk of attempting to get the ball back early, rather than stand off is the risk of mistimed challenges or if by committing yourself you get turned and in dangerous areas end up dragging the opponent back.

Still its easy to blame the worldwide conspiracy.

I'd believe that if Fabregas hadn't ruthlessly brought down three City players during the game in order to stop a quick attack developing and wasn't spoken to once, never mind booked

I do blame the conspiracy and I don't make any bones about it. It's hard not to when the opposition make the same number of fouls as we do (more in some games) yet we pick up more cards than they do. It's like when Mario played for us he'd get a yellow just for walking on the pitch. There are no consequences for referees who are card happy towards us. Not only do they have cart blanch to book us they almost seem to enjoy it; like it's their moral duty or something.

Fabregarse belongs to that small coterie of players for whom a yellow card, and certainly the second yellow that makes the red, is rarely shown. Rooney has been spared a couple of dozen cards over the last season or two, and Scholes was another who sidestepped any sanction that was readily applied to other players.

I'm still adamant this started immediately after the 6-1. No-one thought a team went to the swamp and twatted them 6-1; We shook fuck out of the establishment that day and I think we've been paying for it in some form or another ever since. We consistently pick up an abnormal amount of cards for both the amount of possession we frequently have and how we actually play the game. I don't think this is a necessarily a directive, but I do think there was a lot of worry that we were on the cusp of turning this into a one team league.

Fabregas loves to wave an imaginary card at every opportunity - but is never punished for doing so.
