I actually find the article quite amusing. Anybody with an ounce of common sense can see it for what it is, sensationalist bullshit.Len Rum said:The agenda is quite simple here.
Discount any domestic success we achieve ( only 'bought' it, should have won it by ten points etc), and then move the goalposts for 'success' to winning the Champions league. Until we win it then they can always claim that we are failures. If ( sorry when ) we win it then move the goalposts to 'winning it as a one off will not satisfy the Sheikh' and so on.
The article is just following this pattern.
I spoke to a Rag family member a few weeks ago and amidst all the banter I asked him a serious question about our coverage in the media and City's public perception and to his credit, he hit the nail on the head when he admitted, he feared us because we'd upset the old order and had the money to dominate for a generation. He went on to admit that if FFP was the only way to stop our advance, then so be it. So there you have it, just further proof of what we already know.
I'll ask a serious question of all of us which is one which was returned to me during that conversation; 'In all honestly, if you were in our (ManUre's) position, wouldn't you feel the same and want City to disappear into a massive sinkhole? I suppose if a former minnow was threatening my status and revenue, as much as it pains me to say it I suppose I'd feel the same. The only reason some of us wouldn't feel like that IMO would probably be because the pain of being everyone's favourite joke is still raw to most of us, but could the same be said if we'd had a generation of dominance and untold success?
Even the bitterest of memories fade with time.
