Solution at Centre Back

I also remember Micah playing that position against Norwich on the final day of last season.

He was cringeworthy bad.

Even the attributes he did have, he no longer has.

Not especially quick and, surprisingly for such a lump, a danger to his own well-being.

I agree totally on Nasty, always thought Rodwell would make a top centre half?

I completely agree. Rodwell has all the physical attributes to make a top notch modern centre half. Positioning maybe an issue but there have been many instances where a central midfielder has slotted in at the back and excelled. Kompany / Desailly spring to mind.

Id prefer to see Rodwell at CB aswell , but its going to take a brave manager to trust him playing there considering how his played for us at CM

I think Dzeko would make a decent centre back - he's tall, great in the air, good touch, excellent passer and pretty quick over the ground.

Quite a few on here would not agree with you. especially the good touch.
A few years back Micah and Dunne were getting all the accolades as the best duo in the Prem.

Richards was magnificent in the derby match and he was good that season at CB with Dunne but Dunne covered Richard's a lot!
If I remember correctly Richards would always try and get to the ball first and use his power and pace to win the ball, if it came off then he would look world class but if it didn't then Dunne would sweep across and try and deal with it.

I'll throw this in just so some people can come back and tell me I've lost my marbles ....

Rodwell has the potential to play CB in Pellegrini's system

Big enough - Yes
Good enough on the ball for a CB - Yes
Could he drive out of defence with the ball like Kompany - I don't see why not
Quick - Looks pretty quick to me
Can play on left side? - He's two footed would be able to play as left CB or deputise in Vinnie's absence as a right CB

Everything tells me he has the potential to be a top CB

If you were Pellegrini would you not be trying him out in training sessions at CB ??

Downside - Injuries, will he ever get over his hamstring problems

Please tell me you are saying that tongue in cheek!

The lad couldn't trap a bag of cement or his hand in a door imo.

Must be in jest - only true statement is 'he's tall' !!!!!!!!

In theory Rodwell is made for centre back under Pellers, comfortable off either side with the pace to press high, powerful at tackling and heading, a good passing range with both feet etc.
He's a similar if less imposing figure to Vinny, if he learned the position he has the potential to be a Rolls Royce of a player there ... but sadly its all on paper as he's never been fit enough, even in pre season, to show his real potential, its bloody frustrating.

Rodwell is the nuts, if ever gets a game, a real powerhouse, athletic, headstrong and an eye for a goal, can,t help think he would be a bit wasted at the back if the big If happened

Anyway, back to 3 at the back...

Micah is right footed. He cannot play as an LCB.
There are many CH pairings who are both right footed. I don't know where this CH needs to be L or R footed if he played LCH or RCH comes from.
