South Africa vs. Mexico (Match Thread)

When someones offside there's always the keeper in front of you and everyone else is behind you, and on this occasion it was an outfield player infront instead of the keeper so it's offside!

Its still further complication to the rule though tbh, as far as i'm concerned it should just be if your ahead of the last man your offside. Never knew the goalkeeper counted in offside decisions till now.

It's not a complication though, offside is when there is only one player between the attacking player and the goal. The rules don't mention anything about goalkeepers it's just assumed that they'll be the one who's between the attacker and the goal because they are positioned close to the net but incidents like this do happen every now and then just not that often

Just didn't know the goalkeeper was considered, i always assumed if your ahead of play and ahead of the last man and (who isn't a goalkeeper) plus playing an active part your offside, with Pienaar on the line didn't see how the guy who scored was offside but i get it now.

It's a ridiculously stupid rule imo, that should have been a goal!

It's just the way it is, it isn't that often it comes into play. If there had been a player on each post it would have been a goal, South Africa got lucky. I don't think it's as stupid as the rule where injured players have to go off the pitch and be waved on after treatment. This weakens the team when often the oppostion have fouled the said player resulting in their injury. Riles me that one!!

-- Fri Jun 11, 2010 3:06 pm --
